Bad colour poop .

Hi everyone

My 9 months old with alagille syndrome has very bad colour poop for last three days, it always has been kind of dark colour, green or dark yellow, but looks like there isn't much bile in it now, its kind of grey with a bit of yellow in it and very hard, she is also constipated which is also unusual, ... Has anyone experienced it with liver kids and what can it be? Maybe we should rush to the hospital? Her last blood tests was better and it was just a month ago, why could it change so much in just one or two days! ? I am so worried, dont know what to think ...can it be a bad reaction for anti itch medicine we started to take a month ago ? ....and can it improve ?

Hi hun. Go and get it checked out. Don't sit worrying. In BA kids we always checkout any pale stools ASAP. I don't know anything about Alagilles but as its liver disease and no bile coming through suggests a blockage of some kind get it checked. Also checkout a stool colour chart which will show you normal and abnormal colour ranges.

We did some blood tests today, will see tomorrow the results, hope everything is ok. She actually had darker stool lately in the afternoon, was dark green with a bit of light brown...she looks a bit jaundice too, so something is definitely not going well

Yes many many times. In BA it is a sign of blockage and/or infection.

What do they do if its blocked? I think should be she same for all liver kids. I think liver specialist mentioned something about blockage today ...

Its always good to check as you never know with liver kids.

I was a bit down this afternoon, but feel much better now because we do all our best to help her...but its still hard emotionally sometimes

Any news? Out of interest what colour is her poop normally? Rhys' is very yellow normally, he has had the odd day where it went a little pale but went back on its own.

No news yet hun, going to GP tomorrow for results, but they couldnt collect enough blood for all tests last week, so we probably go back tomorrow. Her poop is better, got a bit darker. I think yellow is good colour , then it can change all the time with solids, hard to tell, but definitely should be dark or bright. I think dark green and light brown is good for baby who s taking solids ... Will let you know blood results tomorrow
