Hi Tracy, thank you so much for sharing this with us, it is really important for parents to read positive stories and have hope - Jacquie
My daughter has recently celebrated her 18th birthday and I'm so glad to still have her here.
She had biliary atresia, late diagnosis due to missed blood results and jaundice not being taken seriously, a kasai that failed and liver transplant at 7 months old. Along the way we experienced asities, portal hypertention, bleeding, rejection ,viruses, pneumonia, questions, bioposy's, inflammation, good and bad times.
Catherine makes me so proud, especially when she did a video for CLDF in 2015 and became a hive ambassador where kids can ask real questions of other kids that have gone through transplants and living with them. Puberty was her most difficult time but supportive friends and family and answering questions honestly and allowing them to have their say in their treatment and encouraging them to take part in research for future generations. Taking part in the transplant games and meeting other families I would recommend to all families as you learn to laugh and have hope for the future.
As she gets ready to take her final A2 exams with her younger brother doing AS at the same time, university place accepted, I would say never give up hope and happiness is always around if you look and trust the doctors and nurses expertise.
