i have low blood pressure average about 110 to 115 over 60 to 70. and my consultant has put me on candesartan 2mg. but it's making it much lower under 100. iwas on ramipril before and told him this but he said this should be ok. all this after angiogram last week. all was ok with my stents over a year ago. no blockage in arteries. said it is good for the heart function. but with low pressure making it worse. any suggestions? my gp has taken me of them when i told him so not on any other apart from plavix and attorvastatin 80mg.

Hi Sindy,

I'm sure you will get some replies from other people with stents who have had the experience, but isn't it just routine after a blockage to put patients on an ACE inhibitor (such as ramipril) and a high dose statin?

Maybe the candesartan is not so potent, although you say it is making your BP lower. I'm sure most medics equate lower blood pressure (and lower cholesterol) with reduced risk so maybe they won't be concerned unless it is making you feel dizzy and faint.

hi aliwally,

thanks for reply, i'v always had low pressure even before my problems.

and yes the taplet does make me dizzy and faint. 90 over 59.

anyone on candesartan with same conditions or simalar.

Hi Sindy,

I too, was in exactly the same situation with a similar drug. I suffered weakness after exertion and feeling faint from standing up suddenly. I consulted a couple of doctors at my local practice and they were both of the opinion that the very low blood pressure would enable me to live longer.

I try to be more active, but the blood pressure was simply too low to support real activity. I finally had enough after 5/6 years, spoke to my GP and stopped taking it. I feel so much better, being back to 110/70. I prefer to be active and die sooner :D

Your readings were mine until I was about 55 and although it had its drawbacks like being cold it was never treated until as now it is high.

My readings have never been above 75/60 and have been lower. I too, get a bit faint and dizzy if I stand up quickly. Luckily I am not on any drugs for it and the Dr says she is not worried. Neither am I as my father had and my daughter has the same. Although my father died some years ago it was from cancer and not heart disease or stroke. His blood pressure was never a factor. With the coldness that i feel, especially if I sit for too long, and my feet get like ice, I have found that a walk around the village just before bed, some 20 minutes, not quickly but just a paced step gets me warmed up for bed and I sleep well. If I don't rush about and take each day at a pace that stops me feeling dizzy (with grandchildren to look after and two homes to run I keep busy)

I know your health problems are different from mine but if you are having problems with your medication perhaps you should go back to your surgeon or revisit your GP with questions (written down if necessary) and get the answers you need.

best wishes
