I have been taking my medication, Ramipril/Bisoprolol/Simvastatin/Asprin since 2007, without any side effects, eccept when I go walking I seem to get pain in the hips but not all the time, maybe because I probably don't walk enough or maybe one of the tablets I am taking. Any views on this please.
Thanks,
Victor.

I am taking exactly the same medication as yourself except for the Aspirin because of a blood clotting disorder. I developed a pain in the hips also, more in one than the other when I walk. I put it down to early onset of arthritis but now I am beginning to wonder. Also suffer pains in the shoulders and neck but again, I put this down to having angina. I would say it was the Simvastatin causing the pains and would love to stop taking them but the diet regime is so restrictive, would have to be virtually fat free and there is not much left on the menu of any pleasure really.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was the Simvastatin. I joined this site because a year ago my mother was having terrible pains in her hips and leg muscles. She thought arthritis to start with but then as the symptoms got worse and worse became convinced it was the statin. It got so bad she was in agony most of the time, had to use a stick and could not even walk a hundred yards, after being very active previously. Her doctor did some tests and discovered that the statin was causing the problems to the point where it was seriously endangering her health. She was taken off Simvastatin immediately and no longer takes any statin. He muscles and joint pain started improving relatively quickly after stopping the statin. She can now walk without a stick and doesn't have the hip and joint pain. Hair has grown back in the 2 penny size bald patches that developed around the hairline at the back of her neck. The disturbing dreams also stopped. As soon as we discovered the problem we did some research and started supplements of co enzyme q10, a very important enzyme which is depleted by statin use. If you have to take statins I'd take CoQ10 too.
Please do mention your symptoms to your doctor and get checked out. Side effects are more common than you'd think on these drugs and can do lasting damage.
Hi Victor...you don't say how old you are but from your pen name I would assume 60+?? I would be thinking about arthritis in your hip...lots of us suffer from more than one damm medical condition. I have arthritis. Look into chiropractic...not cheap but it makes a lot of sense to me. I now have a treatment every couple of months to keep my spine straight and my hips working. Started couple of years ago when my hip was so bad I considered hip replacement...chiropractic worked for me....hospitals are dangerous places, stay out of them as much as possible. A cheaper alternative is cider vinegar and honey...an old fashioned remedy that also works...imho, details if you want
I have too have been taking this medication, Ramipril/Bisoprolol/Atrostatine/Asprin since November 2012.
Started to have back pain on my left side hip. Today I also pointed out to the doctor, having after attended the physiotherapy for the last three months, the that pain is not on the mend
Today I was also referred to the hospital to get the x-rays of the hip. Presently I am waiting for the appointment for the CT Scan to check out is there are other source that is causing the pain. I am also trying to figure out why this pain is taking place.
See what the doctors at the hospital has to say, by next month I hope.
Hi,I am just letting you know what happened when I had a Heart Scan today, and had a long talk with the Dr.
I have Aortic Stenosis, which means my Valves are not opening properly, thus,it means shortness of breath
Not,the Biprososol.which I had suspected....once you read that it is possibly a pill?
if you remember I was taking Simvastatin for years,I had the muzzy head and short term memory loss ,and severe joint pain,
I am riddled with O/Arthritis,but,this pain was extra to that pain.
I was put on Naprosyn.......and a blood test recently showed that my HEART/KIDNEYS/THYROID and others were not working properly
.
I had already heard of the Simvastatin side-effects,so,#
I said I would never ever take them again.
this Heart Dr. agreed with me TOTALLY today.....agreed that I should not take them or any other statin.
wooohooooo!!!
relief is enormous......
so,now I wait to see what another Consultant says when I get referred on to the massive Heart Unit...possibility of an Open Heart Operation, sometime in the future, but,he said I will easily survive it!!!
I now feel so much relief that I do not have to go back on Statins ....ever.
...
my advice?go to your DR.OR,Pharmacist and have a genuine man to man talk,
I went to mine and we went into a Consulting room,
he said,if I ever worry about any pills or potions?the Pharmacists will always tell you the facts.
and, will find something more suitable for you,
you get a chance to have a long talk without worrying that the next Patient is almost at the door waiting....
I hope this helps at least one Patient......Pat...( I am 73 )
I have taken Enteric coated aSpirin for mANY YEARS,NO PROBLEM EVER/THESE HELP KEEP HELP WITH THINNING CLOTS FOR HEART ATTACKS,PROVIDING YOU CAN TAKE TENTERIC COATED WHICH MEANS SUGAR COATED,they bypass the heart ....
