chest pain can they be aicd refluxs
hi
did you have any treatment for acid reflux? Has it helped. My experience of acid reflux was acid rising up into my throat and really burning. Had investigations but nothing showed up so i try to avoid/limit foods which i know cause acid for me, difficult though as it can be my favourite things like chocolate, red wine, and sometimes a cup of tea.! However i never had chest pain. i would go back to your doctor as you are still getting unexplained pain .
The doctor give omeprazole 20mg take 2 a day but they are not really working he said if they dont do the job i will have to have a camera down my throat but i am not a doctor and the pains i am geting and have read about make me think its more then aicd refluxs
Hi
Reading sites like this one if you really okay can make you worry which will make any pain worse but if it persists I would go to a different Doctor in the Practice and try to talk to him/her. If you need to have the camera down it is nothing to worry about. It is far better to know what is wrong with you.
When I go to another gp in same practice am told they dont want to go against other gp as NOT professional.
I get acid reflux a lot. Often it comes up into my throat and mouth. It really hurts, tastes vile and is worse when I am in bed at night lying down. I find that certain things make it worse. Alcohol, fatty foods, spicy foods are worst for me.
One night just over 2 years ago I had a burning pain in my chest. It seemed to be centred lower than where the acid pains had been and was a different pain, it seemed to burn for a few seconds and then recede gently. It appeared when I moved around. One afternoon I walked upstairs to get something and the burning pain came, it was stronger than usual. It was there all the time. I felt very unwell, I started to sweat. As I was there I thought I would have a lie on the bed for a minute. I felt nauseous and I had a terrible aching pain in my arm that didn't go to my hand, it stopped at the wrist as well as an ache in my jaw and ear. This was a heart attack.
I now know what my heart attack pain felt like and can easily tell it from acid but back then all I knew was that this was different. Go and have the investigation and see what it turns up. Keep a diary of what you eat, what you do and when the pains turn up. This will help to see if there is a common thread. Don't worry too much but don't let it drop either.
Sorry to hear you may have acid reflux, its difficult to sort out. I am on rabeprazole helping a bit but not enough, just put on it twice a day now but still no change. The burning was awfull, had it for months on end before I asked for protem pump tabs which made the situation manageable. Not to be concerned about camera, That awfull burning seems more like so called acid. I am getting on in life, just glad didnt start when younger. Hope yours settled pretty soon.
Didnt mention the burning is mainly in abdomen, not oesophagus, and some in mouth, dont get any acid taste in mouth. Not easy to accept and understand at first.
Hi,
I had a heart attack last June & put on medication, for 2 months I had problems like my heart attack pain I was prescribed a calcium channel blocker & I was ok until early December. The attacks started again only a a morning chest pains going into my left arm, my gtn spray took the cheat pains away, ecg was ok, doctors putting me on different medication had about 6 different stomach medication & treating me for angina the tablets did not work. For 2 & half months these attacks were getting worse until one GP sent me straight into hospital for tests. I had had a Barium Swollow test last November that showed I has reflux with spasm, the heart consultant new what the problem was with all the symptoms I had, said the spray would take the pain away as it was a reflux spasm like angina heart spasm. I was taken off 3 medications that were no good & one I should not have been on. put on Diltiazem 90mg twice a day (this is for my heart & to stop the spasm attacks) & Lansoperazole 30mg twice a day so far I had no more attacks.
Hope this info helps, if you have not had any tests for reflux maybe you could ask your doctor for a referral.
Regards
Carol
I should be on Diliazem but it caused really bad ankle swelling, doctor at time said I had to put up with side effects...not sure what the dose was. Interesting to hear how others are coping and treatment given.
pain caused by acid reflux can be very severe and very similar to the pain of a heart attack, particularly if you are having oesophageal spasms. So your pain probably IS acid reflux - I know because I've had the same problems.
If you are still worried, ask your GP to refer you to a chest pain clinic. You need to do a treadmill test with an ECG to see if the pain is caused by angina.
