i gave up smoking after restarting 2 to 4 a day after non for years ..so i get real hungry ate craved biscuits cake tarts crumbles all high sugar.,. my hb1c is pre at 43. but I've put on stone weight tummy due to antidepressant . plus. bloat out eating them and keep falling asleep or trying hard to stay awake..eating them..i never eat much fruit as have gastritis and most too acidic and gives me pain not keen on fruit anyway ..eggs bread constipates me and cant do dairy cheese fatty foods.

i did a home stool test and it said very high levels of sugar and fat suggesting malabsorbortion.. my hb1c was 41 before but thought after months of eating all the cakes biscuits etc i thought it would have been much higher than 43. told gp and she didnt say anything .Im confused as whats going on

elastase ok and thyroid ok,good cholesterol good, bad cholerestrol slightly raised so prescribed me statins said if muscles ache stop them. Im worried ill react to them. totally confused . must stop eating crumbles etc yes but why fall asleep and bloat eating them?

.is my insulin making me fall asleep ? A stool tests says high levels sugar and fat!. doctor no clue gastro don't see till feb. seen cardiologist have heart murmur and aortic stenosis . asked if i smoked i said used to for years. please dont again. i never said i had been but gp knows , (5 months 3 or 4 a day on and off couple weeks ) got short of breath so stoped a month ago but nurse did a blood test and something re heart is raised so gp writing to cardiologist asking if another eco should be done as he said not do another until 4 years time and I'm 74. i dont know why i fall asleep eating even 3 crackers efc and bloat..and why stool tests suggest malabsortion of sugar and fat.

All the sugar you are eating is not doing you any good at all no wonder you are tired all the time.

Has your doctor not suggested you see a dietician about your diet? You are really not eating very well and as the saying used to go ‘We are what we eat’. Do you drink enough water?

Also if you have a heart problem that could be making you tired. It’s good that you’ve stopped smoking again though. Hopefully the cardiologist and the gastroenterologist will be of help to you.

What about exercise? Do you take a bit of a walk in the fresh air every day or if you can’t do that what about getting some chair based exercises, you could find out if your surgery can suggest anything like that for you.

I’ve never taken insulin but as far as I can know 43 is just in the pre-diabetes level, 41 wasn’t even pre-diabetic so how come you are taking insulin? What were your cholesterol results like I your doctor wants you to start statins? It might be worth trying them to see what happens and if you have muscle pains then as the doctor says you can always stop taking them.

It’s a new year so it’s a good time to make a new start with what you eat.

im not on insulin or anything..gastro not interested .yes will stop sugary stuff even pots carrots pees as maybe healthy but still sugar. apples bloat me..dont like fruit .saw dietician just sent me list of foods. cant read well asked her to post . next aopt March 24

daughter stopped giving carrots to her horse as makes horse stroppy next day..sugar. thanks .

Sorry I thought when you asked if it was your insulin making you sleepy you were taking insulin. That is funny about your daughter’s horse - who would have thought that!

Have a look through this website -dietdoctor.com - it should be free, I never paid anything, I haven’t used it for a long time though, they used to send me a new topic every week but somewhere on it you can see the sugar content of various fruits and veg. I think blueberries are a fairly safe choice - can you eat them?

Basically veg grown above ground don’t have the same sugar content as things like potatoes, carrots and parsnips that store sugar in the roots. I know that a jacket potato and salad that I used to think of as a good healthy lunch or a bowl of parsnip soup used to send my blood sugar soaring.
