statins

I have been on Rosuvastatin 5mg now for 16 months, originally started Atorvastatin, which caused too many side effects. In the last few months i had a few nosebleeds, pain in the back of legs, and generally feeling crap, also blood sugar went up again! The first year or so on it was not too bad, but it seems quite common to develop problems after a while. I am using a pill cutter to cut them in half, and i now take 2.5mg Rosuvastatin every other day, i feel much better, mainly not as tired as usual, which for me was the biggest problem, always putting things off cos i didn't have the energy to do anything! Feel more mentally alert too, am hoping blood sugar will now come down as well. On lots of american university websites there are studies showing that every other day statins still give you protection, even once a week still gives you some protection, so i will continue with every other day, and will ask GP to test my cholesterol in about two months to see what my levels are. I cant think what else I can do, other than stop taking them, which i would prefer not to do at the moment.

There is lots of info on internet about cholesterol injections instead of statins, but they all seem to have side effects as well! My dad died not long ago, which has caused all kinds of family problems, which has caused stress, and that doesnt help, have been self medicating through the stress with comfort eating, which is obviously not good! Am now trying to get back on track with diet, and exercise, but sometimes when there are problems its just so easy to reach for a packet of crisps! Is anyone out there using statins and Flora Pro Activ Olive spread? Do they help each other, or work against each other, would be interested to know, as Heart Uk recommends it!

Would it be possible for you to give your blood test numbers for cholesterol and blood glucose.? Thanks

in reply tosandybrown

Do not know cholesterol, haven't been tested in a while, do not have any home testing kit for it, blood sugar is reading 10.1 at moment sometimes goes down to 9, has been high for a few days, if does not down by midweek, will contact GP.

Your GP gave mediation for what ever reason. You you and others to understand blood numbers are important, will wait for your blood numbers.

In UK HbA1C in now measured, 90 day average. What is the unit of 10.1

Sorry to ask all the question, I have been researching blood numbers for the last 10 years.

Take care.
