"A simple blood test – called a natriuretic peptide test "
"A simple blood test – called a natriuretic peptide test – that looks for the hormones released when the heart is under stress can detect the onset of heart failure.
"It costs only £15 and takes minutes to carry out, but just a fifth of patients showing signs of heart failure are offered it, according to an analysis of data by think tank Public Policy Projects."
Its worth pointing out that the NT-proBNP blood test is used as a diagnostic tool. An abnormal level doesn't mean you have heart failure just that further investigation may be required, an abnormal level can be caused by all sorts of health conditions including an infection! But as usual the Daily Fail will pick up the minimum of information and run with it!! The fact they describe HF as a condition that leaves you breathless & fatigued shows they know very little about HF (HF is so much more than that!) it's shocking the way they report these things! Yes dr's should be offering this test but this 'article' is written in its usual style of sensationalism to shock & scare!!
