Hi. Statins give me bad muscle pain and as I have Fibromyalgia I think the pain is worse.
I was referred to the Lipid clinic and put on Ezetimibe with 5mgs of Rosuvastatin but I couldnt cope so I took Ezetimibe on its own but my number only came down to 6.1. It had been 8.5.
Now they want me to start on Praluent injections bi weekly. Im a bit shocked.
Reading about the side effects it seems that this also causes muscle pain so now Im wondering if I should just take a statin anyway as its more convenient than an injection.
I am presently tapering off Duloxotine so have enough side effects going on.
Im 59. My dad had a quadruple heart bypass at 60 and had TIAs before that. His mum,my grandma also had a stroke in her early 60s.
Im worried. Im also told Im pre diabetic but Duloxetine is causing my weight gain!
Has anyone else on here been put on Praluent injections and if so how are you finding them?
thanks.

I have seen a nurse practitioner in cardiology at a well known clinic in Seattle. I had statin side effects so developed a low fat vegan diet for several years which helped but not enough so I finally started a statin which was only prescribed one day per week and that’s all it took to bring my cholesterol down to a normal to low level on all measures. I also have a carotid ultrasound at least every two years because she recommended it as a good measure. Doctors frequently don’t recommend because most insurance doesn’t cover it. It cost about $270.00 so I paid and am so glad. I did have plaque in a carotid artery and my plaque levels now fall in the normal range but still some plaque. It’s not our cholesterol level that measures plaque just the risk. I highly recommend finding a medical provider who works with people who have side effects from statins and know how to modify the amount for you. I saw on line that there are now a few formal studies on the use of tiny dose of statins and research looked good. My side effects are insignificant now (depression, body aches., tired).
