About RYR!. I was wondering if anyone who is out there that uses red yeast rice daily for cholesterol has noticed an increase in blood sugar fasting or otherwise also a rise in blood pressure?

Thank you!!!

I take HPF Cholestene 2 in the morning and 2 at lunch. This was the highest approved monacolin K (lovastatin ) RYR by Consumer Lab.

Blood sugar levels are 5.2 to 6.2 and BP 116/73 so no I am not seeing any increases.

But my concern would be your RYR if it is having these results I would cease taking that brand. According to Consumer Lab there is a huge difference between brands with their ingredients.

Agreed, sleeksherp.

My understanding is the same that Red Rice Yeast was a component of Lovastatatin and was advised against using it.

I agree, cease taking it and contact the physician.

Were you already taking a statin when you started RYR , what was the reason you were advised not to take it.

My concerns were - poor quality control which results in very little monacolin k being available but the upside was no side effects re statin muscle pain.

No. I was given Creator for 6 months by an endocrinologist. He was inattentive as this drug is not recommended for kidney patients as it produces protein spilling. It did not reduce low end high cholesterol by much. Backache began.

I was then given Atrouvastatin by the same person which barely reduced the cholesterol and caused violent backaches and upper GI distress. He finally agreed to take me off of the statin after 8 months of suffering.

In a routine physical my PCP discovered extreme muscular swelling on the side of my back which hurt and a statin allergy.

In coming up with an alternative to statins, RYR was discouraged as it contains some ingredients in Lovastatin. The plant sterols and stanols were suggested with sunflower lecithin. We later added 500mg non flush niacin which got my cholesterol to normal including LDL.

This, plus dietary adjustments on my part has worked for me, but may not be so for everyone.

Hope this answers..please reach out again.

You don't need red yeast rice. You need a diet low in simple carbohydrates, sugar and processed foods. Ideally, even eliminating these items as I have.

I encourage you to read my pinned post to the right of this page titled:

"How I Conquered Heart-Disease and What I Have Learned in the Process".

A diet high in fiber-rich foods such as green cruciferous vegetables and legumes will naturally lower your cholesterol by eliminating the inflammatory conditions in your body.
