Nagging doctors.

I recently had my annual blood test to check cholesterol and thyroid hormones, and surprise, surprise, I`ve had a text from my gp`s surgery asking me to make an appointment to discuss the results. I know from experience what happens next. I`m going to be told that my cholesterol is too high and that I must go on statins. I tried them once, and had such bad muscle pain and tiredness that I stopped taking them and felt better. Why don`t doctors consider alternative medications for cholesterol? I know theyr`e available, but all I hear is statins, statins, statins!

Yes the doctor kept nagging me i took two different ones and had side effects from both so now i refuse statins which is my choice.

So how were your thyroid levels ? - did they test the FT3 ? The NHS website mentions the thyroud shoukd be adequately tested before starting statins. Perhaps your GP has not read that bit 😊 Surgeries awarded more funding points for prescribing statins than they are thyroid hormones. SIGH !

Dietary and lifestyle change is better than statins. Read the 'Pinned Posts' section to the right of this page and click on 'How I Conquered Heart-Disease and What I Have Learned in the Process'.

Good luck.

Get the NMR Lipoprofile blood test (about $100 USD). It will measure your LDL-P (particle number). If your particle number is in the optimal range, then the LDL-C value that you get from your doctor will be rendered meaningless.

Hmmm this is interesting as I have the same dilemma. I was given statins after my annual check up and really didn’t feel good with such achy legs it ruined my holiday. I rang the doctor who said o well stop them and change your lifestyle and we will check again next year. So I haven’t taken any since January but my legs constantly ache and are so stiff if I sit down for a while and I actually have to do steps on one leg up and down like a flipping ole lady. So I’m definitely not blooming taking statins any more😳🤬
