Yikes - my husband was on Crestor for 5 month developed and achey groin, shoulders and sometimes knees also some muscle pain in legs. It has been over a month now since he has been off Crestor but still sore most in evening through the night and morning. A bit of relief during the day. How long can this go on? Doctor says to give it a few weeks.

How long after stopping Crestor did it take for severe groin and shoulder pain to go away?
Try co enzyme q 10 100 mg that helped me I’ve tried lots of statins and they have all given me aches and pains hope q10 works for you
I've been off statins for over six months and still experience severe pain and discomfort in my legs and knees. Not as significant as before but at times excruciating. From what I've read it can take a substantial amount of time for it to cease. I started taking co Q10 a few months ago and believe that it has helped. Hope things improve.
I hope you continue to improve He just started the CoQ10 yesterday. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you!
Thanks and Good Luck!!
Do_La My husband is having success with 200 mg twice a day ubiquinol (he said it was expensive) but immediate relief? FYI Good luck. Hope you start to feel better.
Thank you so so much for this information. I will be sure to give it a try.
I may have spoke too soon. He had two GREAT days felt like all joints were lubricated. I breathed a sigh of relief but ..... starting last night pain was back - this morning pain was bad AGAIN! Ugh .....
So so sorry to hear that. I was really hoping for some resolution!!! Appreciate being informed of the progress. I did place an order for a bottle and will begin taking it as soon as it arrives. I can certainly empathize with his pain.
Does your pain come and go like this?
Do you think it is associated with food or exercise or other factors? Does your pain get worse at night then ease up during the day and is bad in the morning again?
Yes. Everyone once in a while I even have "good" days where it's almost non-existent but for the most part every day is a challenge, some more challenging than others. I had such a bad day yesterday I broke down in tears out of pain and frustration. I KNOW what's you're dealing with and it is no fun.
I was on 30 mg of Crestor following bypass surgery and weaned myself off gradually over 10 months. However, in order to do so, I radically changed my diet and lifestyle to resolve the underlying problem that was causing the elevated cholesterol.
I checked my blood work every 6 weeks during that period and as long as my LDL-C was stable or dropping I reduced dosage by 5 mg.
My shoulder pain took several months to resolve itself, but I also exercised it to help it recover. I have full mobility again.
I also take CoQ10 daily - about 375 mg.
Crestor is the strongest of all statins and for those with very high cholesterol, rather than a high dosage, another solution is a low dose - 5 mg Crestor, plus ezetimibe.
The best thing you can do to help your husband is to help him change his diet. The Mediterranean Diet is considered the healthiest. Daily exercise is also critical. Start slowly and build up over time, to an hour per day.
I encourage you to watch this 13 minute video:
Eliminate processed foods from your household. Processed foods are loaded with hidden sugar, salt and poor quality oils.
One final thing, LDL-C, the so-called 'bad cholesterol' is not the best indicator of cardiovascular disease risk. The blood work measure for Apo'B' and LDL-P (particle number) are the most important. Measure either one of those two to get a more accurate picture as it 'may' render the need for Crestor irrelevant. You should also be aware that half of all heart attacks and strokes occur to people with optimal levels of LDL-C.
Thrombosis (blood-clots), is what triggers heart attacks and strokes. Have your husband's blood measured for fibrinogen and homocysteine.
If those are elevated, he should supplement with the 'B' vitamins, especially folic acid (B9), B12 and B6.
Make sure he eats green vegetables daily, especially things like spinach, broccoli, kale or arugula.
Good luck.
Thank you for the information. I was raised by a dad on the pritikin program so eating healthy has been a way of life for me, though we are not perfect I believe we are WAY better than most. He struggles w making good choices more than I do as it was not ingrained in him at a young age. He has always been thin healthy and strong too which almost made it harder for him to see the benefits until ... now I will show him your response and the video. You are kind to take so much time to respond.
My pleasure.
I'm glad to see that you have knowledge of Pritikin. With a supportive spouse such as yourself, your husband can make the turn for the better. I find having a Fitbit to measure my daily activity, as well as quarterly blood tests provides the accountability to keep me disciplined. Consider these measures for your husband.
Best wishes.
Hi there...in my case it took approximately 6 weeks to get pain free after discontinuing Statin medication...some cases are much worse...
Cheers...Mister J.
I think he is at 6 weeks now - pain is still overwhelming. He has gone to saunas, hot yoga, detox tea, lots of fiber, lemon water w two full lemons trying to flush it out of his system but now we are trying the coq10 adding that to his regimen to see if that helps. We have always taken supplement b complex, fish oil ... D
Here's my good news - he started on CoQ10 - ubiquinol specifically but pain free feels great. Changing diet and adding exercise so hopefully no more statins here!
