I'M 58 and a newby, I've spent a good part of a month reading your very interesting post, also a lot of old post, I feel a lot more confident to be able to talk with the doctor about Cholesterol, mine is Familial Hypercholesterolasmia. I HAD been taking 20mg Atorvastatin for quiet some time. But due to all the Pain in my joints and muscle spasams I was having I went to the doctors and sent to Physiotherapist , no one pinned it down to the Tablets I was on, then I found this group whilst I was on //heathunlocked .com, looking for information about COPD. I've stopped the tablets and I am feeling a lot better. Now I have to see the doctor about an alternative treatment. So big thankyou to you all.🤗🤗🤗

You may wish to have the thyroid ' correctly ' tested - which sadly the NHS rarely do. Low thyroid can be the cause of raised cholesterol. In days gone by the thyroid was treated when cholesterol was raised. TSH - Ft4 & FT3 along with thyroid anti-bodies. Also test B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD. The latter is often low with COPD.

Statins do not work for women. Do read up on Dr Kendrick and his blogs about the real cause of heart disease ...

I'm interested to see that you have said that statins do not work for women. I have stopped taking statins but am curious to know why, if they do not work for women, doctors have not discovered this for themselves when looking at blood test results?

You are welcome ! You are so right there is so much to learn in order to be ahead of the game. Happy to help if you have any specific questions ... I too had raised cholesterol which I ignored as I was waiting for my thyroid to be correctly treated :-)

Still happily learning new things every day - today it is about purelysomatics.com :-) I am thinking of adding some to my Yoga classes !

My husband and I both felt a little better when we stopped taking statins. My statins, Atorvastatin, caused peripheral neuropathy and weight gain and many other side effects. My husband's caused insomnia and weight gain. My G.P., who I have every faith in, tells me that there are alternatives to statins which we are going to look into. I'm glad that this site has been able to help you.

I joined Thyroid UK here on HU some seven years ago. Over 80,000 members so lots of very knowledgeable people. If you want to know more about members you can click onto their username and read their Bio. Only takes a couple of minutes ! On the phone at the moment but will find the research re women and statins and post when on the PC.

Did you look at the link I posted for you above. ? The comment about women will be buried in one of his many blogs that I follow. His book - The Great Cholesterol Con - is an informative read.

Hi joy53, only wish I'd found the group years ago.

I've lost weight these last 3 or 4 month, before I came off the tablets, but found information that you can lose weight with putting so much energy into breathing also muscle loss with COPD.

Gingeros!

Thinking of you! I had a violent reaction to 10mg of Atrouvastatin; 8 months of severe pain at the bottom of my right rear rib and upset stomach.

When my then endocrinologist took me off the drug, my GP found severe muscular skeletal swelling. It is not for everyone.

Please take care of yourself and see your doctor about an alternative such as Zetia. My dad had COPD so I understand.

Sending you warm and healing thoughts..

Hi Ros,

I hope that you are feeling better. Boy do I know that back pain!

My GP told me to use the heating pad which has been a tremendous help.

Let me know about your thyroid tests. I have had the Hashimotos Hypo Thyroid since 2011. My medication dose has been the same with tweaks- add an additional half pill on Sunday when my TSH was lower and reduce it when needed.

I was seen twice a year, with my GP taking over that assignment and the trouble I encountered with it going very hypo last year, she will probably have labs done every 3 months.

I believe the Zetia works with the liver to remove the cholesterol enzymes.

I'm going to read further on it and share.

Got to run..

Speak soon!

Bet:)
