On a non-fasting test my cholesterol was 7.7. I am 61 years old 56 kg and walk 4-5 km /day.. Have been a non-meat eater for 47 years (do eat fish about 1xweek) .. I eat lots of olive oil and make cows milk kefir (about 1 liter a week) Very very little wheat products or oats etc... occasional tofu and quite a lot of nuts, salads and fruit... My cholesterol has gone up from 6.5 to the 7.7 over about 2 years.. I am not anti statins JUST do not want to get on any chronic meds.... WHAT TO DO ??

Cholesterol and other blood numbers do go up as we age. You can ask you doctor for a risk analysis and full explanation, life style change options.

Fastin test for blood glucose. Now days there is HbA1C, blood cholesterol, blood lipid, blood can be taken any time of the day.

Please ask your doctor (WHY?) he or she is requesting a fasting blood test?

There's nothing wrong with olive oil. I use a liberal amount of olive oil daily. I have attained my optimal levels for all blood measures. You just need a healthy diet, exercise, and some supplementation with Vitamin C, D, E, and the B-complex vitamins.

You don't need statins. Overall it sounds like you have a good diet. Avoid fried foods and sugar as well as simple carbohydrates.

Exercise creates sheer stress in the arteries and damages the endothelium. Exercise also is vital for good health.

You need a different repair tool for the endothelial damage in place of cholesterol. Therefore, take 3,000 mg of vitamin C per day in divided doses of 1,000 mg with each meal.

Vitamin C allows the body to create collagen which will repair endothelial damage without leaving behind an atheroma.

Vitamin C is a vital molecule for the human body and it is non-toxic in any quantity. You can ignore the misinformation on the internet about kidney stones and other nonsense.

Look up double-Nobel laureate, Linus Pauling and learn about his work on vitamin C.

Linus Pauling ingested 18,500 mg of vitamin C daily.

I take liposomal vitamin C - 4,000 mg per day, but that is the equivalent of 25,000 to 30,000 mg of vitamin C in pill or powder form. My only side effect - lower cholesterol and lots of extra energy.

Keep your blood clean and flowing properly. Stay AWAY from STATINS!!! If you have no other health issues and have a strong Heart, Statins will only make you sick. They are not meant for 90+% of those who take them. Biggest medical scam on the planet. Listen to to the 'dozens' of well seasoned Heart specialists on YouTube who have NOTHING good to say about Statin treatments. IGNORE studies funded by the the people who make them. High LDL is NOT dangerous to an otherwise healthy human.

Cholesterol is a problem if you have inflammation going on and given plaque's are partly created from cholesterol you can't discount it altogether I think. To smash cholesterol down and see what your baseline is go vegan the Dr esselstyn way, he proved you can reverse plaque's with ultra clean eating. I did this after my HA and although I didn't have high cholesterol its amazing how it changes your cholesterol profile. I'm not so obsessed on cholesterol these days but given it's a risk factor it's still worth keeping control of. Keep your blood alkaline look up the foods that do this, take tumeric, vitamin c, and d and garlic. I've always liked what Darin olien says in his book Superlife. Imagine your body as a free supercar that you're been given, would you put suboptimal products in it too like we do to our bodies
