I'v stopped taking my cholesterol tablets because of muscle or joint pain and started taking Plant Sterols, it would be good to hear your thoughts on this.

Its good that you've stopped. Sterols are good but you'll need more help than that. High dose Vitamin C - 3 x 1,000 mg per day and 500 mg of Niacin per day.
However you must also address the root of the problem - you must modify your diet and lifestyle in a permanent fashion to get to your proper weight.
Read my post here on getting off statins:

I read all your advise and am waiting for my Crohn examination before i can start on the vitC . My diet has already changed maybe not as much as yours but a little.
Thanks for the advise
Chris
Your welcome - most illnesses, including Crohn's disease, are caused by an inflammatory diet. The dietary guidance I have provided in my posts are for an anti-inflammatory diet. You don't necessarily need prescription medications or surgeries, but a commitment to a 'clean' diet. Over time, your issues may be resolved naturally.
Good luck.
You would have to supply more information. For example why were you put on Statins and how amenable are you to lifestyle and diet changes
i did this some considerable time ago. It certainly worked for me. Since then my cholesterol levels on my six-monthly check-ups have always been satisfactory with no suggestion of tablets being needed.
I strongly encourage you to read this book 'How to Live Longer and Feel Better' by Dr. Linus Pauling.

Niacin is more dangerous than you think and plant sterols have been directly linked to CHD
get off both and concentrate on lifestyle without supplements.
