I am a 56 year old female 135 lbs 5'3" with high cholesterol. It has been high since I reached about 40 years of age and is hereditary. My cholesterol stays over 300 without statins, but statins hurt me. On and off for the past 16 or so years I have tried to take these, but the muscle pain has always been real. I took them on and off until my doctor stressed the importance and I finally started taking them as prescribed about 2 years ago. My body fell apart and I went back to my doctor who changed my statins 3 times before I suffered possibly irreparable damage to my back as well as injured my left arm and left Achilles' tendon. Listen to your body, statins are not for everyone and I believe doctors and Big Pharma do not want this topic open for discussion. It's very hard for me to receive the help I need because doctors are warned against seeing statins for what they are. I do recommend having your Thyroid checked as the culprit of your cholesterol problems and pursuing Thyroid treatment/medication if necessary. I do not take statins anymore.

Moreover don't beleive the scare stories about saturated fats. You need them especially for brain function let alone other things. Avoid white flour products, that means white bread, and have your dairy products in moderation with all the other good foods. Have a look at:healthscams.org.uk/saturate... I would suggest that you avoid the seed oils as the manufacturing processes are ghastly.
Don't have too many tests, you might die from worry! I'm 82 and stay away from my doctor at all costs. She hasn't seen me since I registered with her for geographical reasons two years ago. I follow the three day rule which has already been mentioned in these posts - most illnesses (not serious ones) will either get better or worse after three days.
