I was faced with similar dilemma recently. In short I did my research, had the op and stick to a plant based diet now. Firstly, in the UK there is little support for the Ornish/Esselstyn alone approach and secondly, why take the chance with those narrowings and risk something happening in the meantime? Not the most pleasant op to be faced with but it really is routine nowadays and you WILL recover quicker than you imagine. Then....stick to the Ornish plan and make sure your grafts don't fur up again for many many years. I agonised for many months but rationalised on this two pronged approach giving me the best chance and I have no regrets.

Good luck whatever you do.

Like you and DJ100 I was faced with same dilemma exactly two years ago. After much deliberation I too chose to have the bypass but also stick with the Esselstyn/Ornish diet to stop further progression of blockages. I am glad I chose the bypass as now feel I am not compromised in what I can do - I walk at least 2 miles every day, exercise 3 times a week at cardio group that was follow on from rehab aft Op and play squash 2 or 3 times a week too. My heart surgeon said stop squash before the Op but I could go back after. I now have no regrets about having the operation and try and stick to the plant based die tabs much as I can which has kept my excess weight off. i am 66 years old and enjoying life to the full - if I hadn't had the operation I would not be as active as I am now. Good luck and I am sure it will work out for you too, but it does take a few months to fully recover so be patient and stick to the diet too.

The diets won't unblock your arteries. Only not make them worse. I would have the op. Better safe than sorry.

The plant based diet has been shown to selectively reduce narrowings in certain people however, it will no doubt depend on genetics as well as discipline so why take the chance? Research Dr Esselstyn if you want more info.

I had a bypass 6 months ago and as I was relatively fit was sitting up the next day, the doctors in icu said "are you sure the surgeon didn't miss you?" and I was walking around a couple of days later.

I personally went for the operation when offered and have no regrets.

Hi I'm 55 and had a quad bypass last February,I gave up smoking as soon as I found out I was to have the bypass I now go walking every day 4 miles in the morning and 4 miles at night in between I do a hour every day in the gym if I were u I would not hesitate in going through the operation it is in no way painful but ur recovery is lenghty and u join a fitness group that is usually run by the hospital for approx 18 weeks and this is very beneficial but you will not regret or look back once you have had the operation the way I viewed it was another chance in life grasp it with both hands.all the best peter.

Hello.

I'd agree that the diets won't unblock the arteries, once atherosclerosis is there, it's there.

You need to talk to your docs about the likely outcome if you do or don't have the surgery - but if you're being offered it, your condition must be serious in my view.

well all I can say its worked for me wether it works for you I dont know my cholestrol ,is 5 up from 4.8 but that when started strauss it was 7 nearly 5 years ago so I am 5 years older suggest you purchase half a bottle  and go from there I felt better after 3 weeks taking it 3 times a day but like a statin see how your body reacts to it and then either reduce or increase dose. But you are only in your 40s I was in my 70s more chance of me not coming through a heart op than you, I presume you have looked it up and seen the reviews I am fine that is all I can say its entirley up to you  GOOD LUCK

would it be possible for you to explain how this works? Why is it in the morning on an empty stomach?

Google gave nothing on "Rasonkshirpak" !!

Thank you. My way of thinking, statin is taken in the night for it to work in the liver!, some medication three or four times a day.

Rasayana medicines in Ayurved in the morning?

My family use Indian spice in cooking.
