im healhy and fit don't drink or smok... - Cholesterol Support
im healhy and fit don't drink or smoke, so how can my cholesterol be 7.2?
Could be your diet or could be inherited. What does your doctor say? HEART UK could help advise you further.
You are eating the officially recommended diet ie 'healthy whole grains, low saturated fat'.
If you'd like all your numbers to improve reverse the current guidelines and start enjoying what your grandparents and antecedents ate:
Genes have a really big effect, something that people don't realise as we hear so much about lifestyle influences.
doc has just given me a list of do's and dont's and go back in 6mths. not sure if inherited ,my mother had a stroke 15 years ago but that was due to her being obese,an alcoholic and a 60 a day smoker ..all of which I am not.
Hello,
Life style change required, LCHF food intake and gym exercise 3to4 times a week. My wife has also asked the same question and now she is following me!
It is very difficult, slow process, you can see the results after few months.
Here I have to disagree with bala. I don't think 3-4 times a week in the gym is the whole answer to exercise. Eat a much more natural diet, avoid the "sugar free" "diet" foods and eat butter, good quality grains in bread, cereals, etc., (particularly oats), have your meat and fish and lots of vegetables and fruit (especially apples, as they are now advocating one a day (where have I heard that before!) has a similar affect to a statin!) Walking daily is my mojo! A mile or so, every day, rain or shine with lots of fresh air and the ensuing endorphins will help your blood pressure to fall and your body to heal itself. Cholesterol levels are an indication of your overall health and not a cause. Check with your GP, have a "full service" just to see that all is well and good health to you.
I have 3 dogs that 1 walk daily so that's my exercise sorted already.I am eating porridge, pasta and chicken with the skin removed, been told to take omega tablets as I hate fish. I will stick to this for the next 6months and see how it goes. thank you all for your help and replies.
Hello,
The advantage of gym exercise is that on a tread mill or on a bike you can take the heart rate to 130 or 140 depending up on your age. The blood flowing at the higher rate than normal helps, this is my belief from my experience. My wife is now seeing it.
As an engineer I can understand the flow and velocity that can help.
My daughter has also found the advantage of gym exercise, I was just saying that not everyone, including me, can do gym work (I have a permanent damaged shoulder) and I was offering an alternative - I certainly see the advantage of gym work but cost and availability can also be a factor. Walking costs nothing!!
