Surgery at Queen Square Hospital, London.

Good morning,

I’m going into Queen square hospital here in London this Saturday for surgery. I’ve got fibrous dysplasia in all of my head and face.

They are going to take away some of the protruding bone to the left of my head and reshape the front of my skull.

My eyes are non symmetrical so my right eye is higher than my left eye which won’t change. I was supposed to go in last week but my surgery was cancelled due to an emergency at the hospital.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with having the above procedure and what was the outcome?

Im a bit nervous, and worried that I haven’t got any care put in place for when I get home as I live on my own.

I was told that I will need lots of rest and that the surgery will take it out of me. .

many thanks.

Sean.

Hi Leeds1968.....

Sorry to hear about the cancellation but glad it has been rescheduled quickly for you, especially if you have some nerves.

I know when I was young, I was terrified of flying, and so nervous, because I didn't know what was going on.

It was only after having some flying lessons, that the nerves stopped. And that is because the flying lessons actually gave me all the information I needed to see how safe it was.

Nerves are always normal. You wouldn't be a well rounded human if you didn't get them, and we all do, in very surprising ways too! One of my pet ridiculous ones currently is, get this........ escalators. I am permanently firm in my belief I will end up head over heels at the bottom! I have however yet to achieve such a stupid feat! :-)

I will leave others to address any issues connected to this procedure, as it is not one I would need to undergo, but that said, please take with you my very best wishes, good luck and come back to us when you feel up to it and tell us how it went.

I suspect that a lot of us need some procedure or other, and most of us will experience nerves. So learning anything we can from how you are able to manage those will be deeply appreciated, I am sure, by many.

We'll be looking forward to you busting any myths or worries for others who may follow your lead!
