I have just suffered a facial laceration to the chin that required multiple stitches last week. I have been told that after 14 days I should apply dermatix silicone gel to the maturing scar daily to help minimize scaring / flatten it etc but I was also told to wear SPF 50 daily to prevent hyperpigmentation of the scar too. Since you have to apply dermatix on completely clean skin Im trying to work out how I can then use SPF on top of it in a way that actually works and doesnt just slide off. Once the wound is healed over and its safe to do so I also want to be able to cover it with make up. Does anyone have suggestions for sunblock or make up products that both cover scars/redness and have a (high) SPF built in. I need to use high spf for at least a year! Im reeling a bit from this (as well as the trauma of the accident) and would love some help
Thanks in advance.

Hi, Sorry to hear about your accident. I have had two skin cancer excision surgeries on the same site on my cheek, 7 months apart. My scar is 3" all the way down my cheek. As soon as the stitches were out I used Mederma plus scar gel, which I presume is similar to the gel you are going to use. I use that in the morning on clean skin, for 2 months. Then if I am going outdoors, I put on a mineral sunscreen, and just tap a very small bit over the top of the scar, and wear a wide brim hat. Once I'm back indoors, I start to massage the area with Bio Oil every couple of hours. Then wash moisturize and put on a silicone scar plaster overnight. As to make up I have avoided it for the first 5-6weeks. In a way I am lucky it's been under a mask much of the time recently due to Covid. Now I am wearing make up occasionally, Im still using the Mederma scar gel, with a fine layer of mineral sunscreen, and just a little concealer over the top. I am very pleased with the way my scar has healed. I am now 8-9 weeks after the second surgery. Good luck and don't forget your hat.
