Swelling on one side of face only

I would like to ask whether anyone has experience of the condition described below:

For about a year I have had swelling which occurs only on one side of my face (the left side).

I get swelling and redness below the eye and a drooping eyelid (again only on the left side).

The swelling below the eye does fluctuate over time but still persists. It is accompanied by redness of the skin.

I don’t suffer pain from the condition but am aware of a sensation.

I have been to the doctor, was referred to a maxillofacial registrar and had an xray, then was referred to a maxillofacial consultant after having a CT scan.

The consultant observed some thickening of the the tissue in question but was unable to diagnose the condition.

Conditions that have been investigated and ruled out include:

Allergies (I had a blood test)

Facial / skin cancer

Horner’s syndrome

Sinus problems

Blocked ducts

Infection

Tooth decay

Hi.

No I'm sorry I have not come across this before. Was it an NHS consultant you went to. It sounds like you need a 2nd opinion. Have you thought about seeing a private consultant, esp now with coronavirus going round. I'm sorry I can't be more help but I wish you the best of luck 😊

That's very interesting, no I don't know what that could be I agree with Cosmicgirl to get a second opinion. All swelling is a sign of inflammation of course so maybe look online to see ways to treat it at home? Good luck keep us posted!

Hi jurf1704 and welcome to the group. It must be hard having a condition that your doctor and consultant have been unable to diagnose. I agree with others who have suggested seeking a second opinion. There is an organisation that works with people with undiagnosed conditions, perhaps they might be able to offer some ideas? Check them out at undiagnosed.org.uk/

Best wishes to you. Stay safe.
