Blue Monday?

Hello again everyone, it's Dola from Changing Faces here. Apparently it was Blue Monday (claimed to be the most depressing day of the year) this week. Can I ask, how do you beat the blues on your really bad days?

By counting my blessings and feeling positive about what I do have that is going 'right'.

Hi Dola. I listen to Mantelpieces by Clifford T Ward, which is a lovely but rather melancholy album, and then find myself a good manual tidying/sorting job, like working in the garden. I find that the blues will invariably disappear over a fairly short period of time. If they are really bad I remind myself that they are a natural part of life and that they won't harm me. The distraction technique then helps the feeling dissipate.

I write it out, to myself. I let myself think and feel all the awful things I do about myself, then I look it over, acknowledge it, and counter it with more accurate, positive statements. This is very cathartic and allows me the chance to see that I'm being too hard on myself and that those words are only words and they can be changed.. this allows me to see how temporary they are so I can allow myself to move forward and more easily let them go.
