Cold but oh so bright here in Southampton this morning. I hope it's similar where you are, as bright days definitely do seem to make us all feel better.
This morning in another HU community I joined in a conversation about how the latest UK lockdown is getting everyone down, and I think it really is the case that the darkest hours are just before dawn. We have some hopeful signs for things to become easier, little by little, but sometimes it's hard to winkle them out.
I said in my response that those who have died in the pandemic, (and no doubt their families) would rather be living in the frustration of lockdown, so long as they still had each other, and I try to focus on that when I feel fed up.
But that doesn't stop me dreaming of being free to go where I want, even to do something simple like take a walk through a forest or along the beach.
While looking for something simple but inspirational to say about this, I came across this list instead. And I felt it mentioned some truths we often forget.
12 DAILY REMINDERS
1. T he past cannot be changed.
2. Opinions don't define your reality
3. Everyone's journey is different.
4. Things always get better with time (and I'm adding distance to this).
5. Judgements are a confession of character
6. Overthinking will lead to sadness.
7. Happiness is found within.
8. Positive thoughts create positive things.
9. Smiles are contagious.
10. Kindness is free.
11. You only fail if you quit.
12. What goes around comes around.
Even if you don't subscribe to all of that, I hope you'll find a little bit of wisdom, aspiration and comfort from it.
A bright/cloudy day here if that makes sense. It looks chilly out but I haven’t been outside as yet.
I think this lockdown had been harder because it’s been over winter. Not great at the best of times. I haven’t found it too bad personally but I think not having the freedom to do what I want has been difficult. I just know things will change but it’s strange to think that a virus has caused such mayhem and despair.
I like your list especially number 12 as that’s what I often say to my family. What goes around, comes around is very true and relevant right now. Number 6 is something I do far too often and I’m a firm believer in number 8.
Thank you once again for a positive Friday post. Always good to read.
Hi sassy59. I do completely agree that the winter effect on lockdown has been truly awful. In one way it's almost a relief that there's nothing much to go out for, but on the other, the lack of light and the cold has caused me a lot of discontent! I'm a practising Buddhist so I also agree that 'what goes around comes around' It is so true that it's a law of the universe! It's what Buddhists call karma of course. Also that positivity breeds more positivity and the reverse is true too. If I start to wallow in negativity, everything seems to become negative! I think we nearly all do too much of no. 6 and start to dwell on things that cause us unhappiness. And they are usually things from the past which we can't change anyway!
Anyway, all in all, I think we are in agreement! 🤣
As we Buddhists would say sassy59, may you be filled with loving kindness, be well, be peaceful and at ease, and be happy! 💖🌈🔆🌸🙏👍. And have a great weekend xxx
