Some of us know all about lockdown already but for the rest of us I thought my washing was illustrating the situation quite well. My knickers and Davids socks clearly want to fly away over the hills but are not allowed to so they are dancing joyfully in the garden instead

That made me smile Freda. My towels tried to make a break for it on Saturday but didn’t make it.
Sending virtual hugs and hope you’re both holding up.
Take care. Xxxx
What a glorious sight FredaE. A symbol of togetherness for one thing, but to me, watching he wind making freshly done washing, billow and flap is a really satisfying thing!
Great to hear from you! Hope you are both staying safe and well! 🌷
One of my first boy friends in about 1058.....no I am not that old ..... I mean 1958 had a deep hatred of washing blowing on a line. I never got a satisfactory explanation from him on why a sail on a ship was beautiful but a sheet on a clothes line was an abomination.
Hi FredaE, I remember when I lived in Germany some years ago, we weren’t allowed to hang washing out on Sundays. It was so strange for we Brits! And how really odd to take against washing blowing on the line! I take it that particular boyfriend became an ex! 😉😉
Yes, that was the summer I met Victor. I aint stoopid
Hahaha, I wonder who had the misfortune to up with him and had to put up with his strange dislike?
None of my families would put washing on the line , because it was the Sabbath Day , and the Bible tells you to rest on it and go to church to thank the Lord , so we did then family all had Sunday roast together and played board games and went for a walk , I'm not overly religious now but I still like to relax on Sunday , and I like to go to church occasionally and then tend to family graves and remember them all !
Hi 5855,
My own mum was very relaxed about Sundays, in large measure because in her teens, her father (my grandfather), had snatched up her best blouse and thrown it on the fire because she’d ironed it on a Sunday! (Even though it was to wear it for church).
It had a profound effect on mum. Although I went to church and Sunday school, it was purely voluntary. And, as in your family, Sundays always included a full-blown roast. The leftovers from the meat joint were invariably served up cold on Mondays because it was ‘washing day’. (We all hated that because it took all day, and taking turns with the mangle outside in winter was no fun at all).
I still enjoy that leisure time feeling on a Sunday, even though it’s now pretty much like every other day. When looking back it’s just amazing how attitudes are constantly changing. It sounds as if you’ve found your own perfect balance for a good Sunday.
I think it’s always so interesting to hear the social histories of other people, so thanks so much for sharing yours.
Take care and I hope you remain safe and well 🙏
Lovely Freda. Really cheered me up! I really hope you are safe and well.
Helen xx
Hi Helen, Good to see you are OK and I hope you are taking care and staying well!
David and I are managing very well. We were able to get a reasonable amount of stores and the neighbours and local people are very kind The village facebook page has offers of help and information about which shops will deliver.
In fact we are feeling a bit guilty with this lovely weather and a good excuse to do nothing.David lost his dear wife to dementia and we both know the luxury of not being on call 24/7
