REQUIRE CARERS ALLOWANCE FOR MY CARER

i AM TRYING TO FIND OUT IF MY PARTNER MRS EILEEN ROBINSON IS ENTITLED TO CARERS ALLOWANCE. I DIVORCED MY WIFE IN 2017, AND SINCE THEN HAVE LIVED IN MY CAR AND B & B' FOR A FEW MONTHS, THEN I WAS TAKEN IN BY A VERY KIND LADY WHO HAS SHARED HER I BEDROOM FLAT WITH ME. i AM IN CONSTANT PAIN WITH MY KNEE AND HAVE BEEN INFORMED I NEED A FULL KNEE REPLACEMENT AS I UNABLE TO WALK AND I HAVE TO USE A MOBILITY SCOOTER TO GET AROUND, AS SHE DOES MY SHOPPING AND ALSO COOKS FOR ME ON A DAILY BASIS. THEN ON THE 13 AUGUST 2018 I HAD A STROKE, WAS IN HOSPITAL FOR 4 DAYS AND WAS RELEASED ON CONDITION SOMEBODY WOULD KEEP AN EYE ON ME. SO NOW I CANNOT USE MY MOBILITY SCOOTER FOR A MONTH. WITHOUT MRS EILEEN ROBINSON I SUPPOSE I WOULD NOT ONLY STARVE BUT ???

TO ME SHE IS MY GUARDIAN ANGEL AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HER WELL REWARDED (CARERS) ALLOWANCE, SINCE 14 JUNE 2017 AS I THINK SHE SAVES THE NH A LOT OF MONEY

Hello Tandoorilegs, welcome to the forum. If you go onto gov.uk you can find all the information you need on Carers Allowance and Attendance Allowance.

I wish you well. Xxxx

Hello Tandoorilegs,

First of all a warm welcome to our Care Community and by the way I love your screen name 'Tandoorilegs'!

What a very nice and caring person you are to speak so highly of your partner who does so much for you. I don't know what financial help you already receive and unfortunately we are a self-help group which exists to share the knowledge we have between us, so we can't say definitively whether your partner is entitled to Carer's Allowance or not, but on the face of it, possibly she might be. It would be worth your while to claim anyway.

If you can manage it online, you can make the claim directly on the GovUK website, or by post, but the forms are not that straightforward and it's better to have some help when applying, to give you your best chance of succeeding.

Have you had a Care Assessment done? That might be your best first step as you would get advice on what to claim and how to do it. If you haven't, you should contact your local Social Services.

I hope you find the help you need, and do come back and let us know how you get on.

Hi, the department you should contact is work & Pensions they will have the rules by which you can claim, although your carer Mrs Robinson may likely have to make the actual application. If you yourself are getting attendance allowance or PIP and she has a pension it is unlikely that she has a claim as the pension payment takes her above the threashold of income allowed. Sounds a bit unfair as she obviously is saving the NHS monies. I have a similar problem and cannot get any claim for my partner but I do receive attendance allowance for me. It doesn't even cover a once a day visit by an outside carer let alone all the other chores that need doing. You could also try a local Palliative care team, they know the rules, may even help with an application and may be able to supply you with some aids.

You should be able to get it! Go to CAB though to make sure and help you fill in the form. While you are there ask about PIP too...
