Good morning auntsally62 and welcome to this very caring community.

Vonnieruth has made some very good suggestions, may I add few more please.

Age UK can also help with advice and if you proceed will also help to fill out the forms with you to apply. To qualify for Carers Allowance you need to spend at least 35hrs each week caring for someone aged 16 and over, earn or have less than 116pounds per week.

Also as you have said your daughter is in receipt of the high rate of allowance.

Age Uk - ageuk.org.uk Tel: 0800 055 6112.

You could also visit moneyadviceservice.org.uk - chat on line or ring free advice line on 0800 138 7777.

Apply for the benefit on gov.uk Tel:0800 121 4433.

Good luck and let us all know how you get on.

MAS Nurse.

Hi Barbara (auntsally62),

I see you've just joined us at the Care Community and as I'm not up to date with claiming Carer's Allowance, I'll leave those with more knowledge on that topic to help you, but as one of the ambassadors for this site I'd just like to give you a very warm welcome and I hope you'll find the information that you need.

Very best wishes.

You won't be able to claim Carers Allowance if you're claiming State Pension. Does your daughter get Attendance Allowance? It can be quite a substantial amount depending on her needs.

The answer is nounfortunately, my husband came home after 19 maths in hospital, the week he came home I started to receive my state pension ( after waiting an extra three years!) and was told it was a benefit and can’t claim carers allowance,I do everything for him apart from eat his food with no help whatsoever x cant even get mobility car as he was over 60!

As others have said, people in receipt of state pension cannot also receive carers allowance.

Hello auntsally62...….I very much doubt you can claim anything as you are on pension and you're daughter is on the highest rate benefit.

You're post is a bit vague and I wonder if you own the property you live in,or if its rented do you get you're rent paid, and do you get you're council tax paid.?

It all has to be considered i'm afraid.

My husband was just under the pension age, worked a few hours a week but was able to claim carers allowance, for me.

He then out of the blue received a letter from DWP saying he owed them money back??

Make sure you get it right!!

Good luck

According to this info you can claim carers allowance

carersuk.org/help-and-advic...

Hi , my dad said that the lical advocacy told him Carers Allowance stops when you get to 75, because my mum was claiming it for caring for me but it stopped three or four years ago now.

They both get their pensions and I get DLA higher rate care. My dad is "our Carer" now . But he is a full time Carer 7 days a week every week of the year without a minute to himself .

However the pitfall here is that because he's 82 he can no lpnger claim Carers Allowance which could have helped a little.
