No place for sissies....

Over the weekend I went to a wonderful family party for my sister and brother-in-law’s 60th wedding anniversary. What a great achievement and one that very few couples manage to achieve.

As I watched them dance the anniversary waltz together so lovingly, the years seemed to fly away and I remembered all of the challenges they have faced together over 60 years and of course I shed a few tears of emotion.

And, inevitably, new challenges are arising. My brother-in-law is now in the early stages of dementia, and of course it is my sister who will have to cope with the lion’s share of the caring for him.

But I’m happy to say we are a united family and will all do what we can to help and support and that’s a great blessing for all.

I think it was actress Bette Davis who said that ‘Old age is no place for sissies’. She certainly got that right, and to all of us who are facing, or have faced old age challenges, of our own or those we care for, here’s wishing us all the courage and tenacity to face them.

Have a good week everyone.

What a wonderful celebration to attend Callendersgal even if it was tinged with sadness. I’m sure your sister and brother-in-law will have lots of support from their livubg family.

Old age brings many challenges but love and support plus sites like this help us all get through hopefully.

Enjoy your week too. Xxxxx

We have been married for 61 years, husband 84 diagnosed with dementia almost five years ago, we are fortunate in that we can still get out and about despite him walking very slowly now. Not easy to scope with. It you have to make the best of things whilst yiu can. We have recently had a weeks holiday in Menorca, had assistance ar airports which was excellent, practice nurse tells us to do what we can whilst we can despite family worrying about us. We know they are there if we need them and have been very good with us but also very protective.

Hello CUmbrialass, that's a wonderful achievement and so good to hear that you are coping so well with everything and still managing holidays. It's not easy but if you can maintain a decent quality of life despite all the challenges, you're doing really well. And it's such a huge help to have supportive family.

Very best wishes.

How true is that! No place for sissies. I will use this term when people refer to my husband with his disabilities.
