Hello Denbrian

Thank you for your message. It sounds as if you are having a difficult time. It is a good positive action to tell us, so you have made a start already.

Could you tell us more about your situation and any reasons for your weight gain and your lack of motivation?

This is a supportive community so our members may have more support for you.

You could try eating good whole foods at regular meal times and having smaller portions.

You could also look at your activity levels . Do you like any particular sport or even walking. You can join a group local to you as it often helps if you do things with others.

Your doctor may be able to advise you or even refer you for more help.

The pinned posts and topics may hold more information and support.

Do keep in touch

Best wishes

Hi Denbrian.

You don't give your age/any physical restrictions you may have, but generally speaking it's always better to eat well than to diet and to find something fun, which won't seem like a chore to you, to make you more active.

Have a look at what you are currently eating, possibly through keeping a food diary for a couple of weeks, and then look at it and see where you think you are eating/and or drinking too much. Work on cutting down and concentrating on the things which are good to eat but where calories can be cut through lessening fat and sugar intake. Use labels on prepared foods and a calorie counter to help you, if you aren't sure.

And exercising will be more appealing if you do it with other people. A rambling or cycling group maybe? I dance in a Scottish country dance group and it's become as much a social activity as exercise. (Yes, we do have cake when it's someone's birthday, and suppers a couple of times a year, but the exercise we do in a very fun way, well makes up for that.

Of course you probably won't want to do country dance! But there probably is some kind of active group that would appeal to you and which would also widen your social circle at the same time.

Very best of luck, and best wishes.
