Help for my son

Hi. My son and his partner are currently living apart as they have not always got on in the past. She is now not well and is claiming esa. My son has been helping out with their little boy and also being there to help his partner. He wants to move back in with her as her carer but he is worried she will lose her benefit. He feels he cannot look for work at the moment due to having to be there to care for his partner. Does he need to put a claim in for carers allowance and then move back in or move back in and then claim. It is all getting him down as he is worried that the job centre will try and force him to look for work, when he says he needs to be at home with his partner in order to help her.

Hi gizzie62 and welcome to the forum. I am sure that other members will be along soon to give help and support, so please stay on the forum. You may like to look at the pinned posts to the right of the screen which give a lot of information and also nhs.ukbenefitsfor carers [your guide to care and support]. Thank you and best wishes.

He will need to move in first then claim carers allowance as you have to care for them 35hrs per week but it all depends on what benefit his partner has
