What is the best diet for fatty liver?
Good Morning Jupsy!
Many thanks for your enquiry regarding a good diet for a fatty liver.
There are many contributory factors which lead to the development of a fatty liver; mainly diet related, but also alcohol and some medications, and lack of exercise. Therefore, exercise is extremely important, so keeping active and mobile is something that should be addressed (or increased!).
There is no miracle diet to help decrease the fatty infiltrations, as it really is down to common sense and having a varied, sensible and healthy diet.
Try and cut down on the fatty and sugary foods and if it suits you to have 4 or 5 smaller meals throughout the day rather than 3 big meals, then please do adjust your regime to suit your lifestyle and personal requirements.
It is advisable not to eat a big meal before bed time, but if you are feeling hungry, then try and eat something 'healthy' so that you don't go to bed with a growling stomach.
We have some information on our website which you may find helpful, so please have a look at the section under the heading 'NAFLD' britishlivertrust.org.uk/da...

Hi
Good luck with your diet or should I say new regime Jupsy. I was diagnosed with fatty liver back in February and told to lose weight and exercise. I joined weight watchers and walked daily, and although I did lose weight it was painfully slow going (3lb in 8 weeks) and I gave up, so whatever you do stick with it! Other thing that I find is that I feel completely exhausted most of the time making walking (which I usually enjoy) a chore, apparently the tiredness can be to do with the liver too, so feel fighting a losing battle at the moment. I hope you have more success.

Hi
When i was diagnosed with fatty liver i joined the gym i was weighing in at 14 stone and now i am down to 10stone 11ilbs. I managed to change my diet to a more healthier one and cut out the junk food. Also i used to eat cereals in the mornings however i stopped this and changed to eating toast in the mornings and skimmed milk and the pounds seem to drop off quickly. However i still have a cholesterol reading of 5.8 and taking stenol products to reduce this. I have slightly low blood pressure so have added a pinch of salt to an apple on a daily basis to increase this. However overall i am feeling alot better and go jogging for 25 mins per day in the morning. I really hope you dont give up as i am sure if you stick to it you will get the liver back into shape.

I have fat in my liver. I have had it for quite a long time. Doc said nothing can be done about it. I find it very uncomfortable. I went on holiday to Turkey and a friend said she had it. She was scheduled to have an op and the doc told her to drink pure Grape juice and eat honey, so I thought I would try. Well it does help the uncomfortableness as it goes away for a while and If I take a 1/2 pt glass of juice and eat three small teaspoons of honey morning and night. I am relativity free of the discomfort. I tested it to see if it was so. I stopped taking it for a day and my symptoms came back.
gingerman, i read about fatty liver and found out that honey has 40% of fructose which is bad for fatty liver. fyi
