Stomach keeps rumbling

Hello,

I was dx with compensated cirrhosis about 2 years ago, still few symptoms (other than some disturbed sleep) I think but over the past 3 or 4 weeks my stomach and been growling and rumbling non stop, particularly at night. I have had some moderate discomfort in the stomach at times, again at night, sometimes a feeling of nausea (although not typically).

I haven’t been diagnosed with acities nor do I believe I have it based on my weight having not increased, I do have an appointment with the hep and a ultrasound in 4 days but wanted to know ahead of time if anyone else has had the symptoms and if they resolved?

It’s hard to know what’s liver related sometimes.

Thank you.

Have you had a recent endoscopy? Do you get indigestion type pain, reflux etc.? Are you eating before bed (you should be!).

Hello I’ve never actually had an endoscopy the hep said she felt it was very unlikely I had varices but on my scan shortly after that appt my spleen was 14cm so I’m worried I might have, I will bring this up. Yes I have had indigestion type pain. I eat up to around 6pm. Thank you

Most guidance for cirrhosis is to eat a good protein and carb rich supper to avoid the overnight long fast. If you've nothing in your stomach and excess stomach acid (and potentially portal hypertension which can affect stomach lining ... not just cause varices) it might be linked with your niggles.

My hubby used to have horrendous indigestion, reflux type symptoms and after his emergency admission to hospital after a variceal bleed and they discovered his cirrhosis - an endoscopy revealed portal hypertensive gastropathy of his stomach lining and fundus - he was immediately put on a PPI (Omeprazole) and didn't get that indigestion sensation ever again until they tried to reduce his PPI post transplant and it recurred so they put him back on it.

In light of enlarged spleen maybe indicating portal hypertension it might be worth asking about endoscopy.
