hi I was just wondering if anybody has taken turmeric supplements I suffer from arthritis in my foot and I’ve also been diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver but elf blood test came back at 15 so I am waiting for a Fibroscan all my other bloods are fine. I have heard turmeric is a very good anti-inflammatory and I also use it in cooking but I was going to take some turmeric and ginger shots but there’s conflicting information when I look it up on the Internet some say it’s okay to take with NAFLD but some say not to take it with NAFLD so I was just wondering if anybody has taken it and been ok I have taken it in the past and it does actually help with the pain in my footthanks in advance.

Good afternoon

There is a huge amount of information online about diet, vitamins, and supplements. Unfortunately, not all of it is accurate.

It is particularly important to get good information if you have a liver condition. Things that sound very safe or natural can become a problem if your liver is not working normally. Always talk to your medical team before you try a new supplement.

I have PBC and checked with my gastroenterologist and he was happy for me to take tumeric with black pepper (this helps the active ingredients in tumeric be digested ) I have had bloods done 6 months after taking and no adverse effect on my liver blood tests xx however I would advise you check this with your doctor just to be sure it’s ok for you as well xx

I am of the opposite opinion... I was taking turmeric for my arthritis pain and suspect it could have been what triggered my autoimmune hepatitis! I don't know that for sure - it is pretty difficult to pinpoint a cause - but my doctors wanted me to stop taking turmeric as soon as my liver function tests showed a problem.

Hello, my specialist told me there is no clear evidence in taking this but she sees no harm in it. I have been taking shots of turmeric ,ginger ,lemon juice and pepper for 8 months now. Can’t say if it helped but it has not had bad effects because my bloodwork and scans are still in normal range. I have cirrhosis from alcohol use. My fibroscan score was 14.1 which diagnosed me.
