liver biopsy results taking WEEKS.

hello, I’m very nervous and feel very consumed. I have a Fibroscan that was 6.9kpa, blood work is normal and I have no symptoms. However I have rheumatoid arthritis so they wanted to be safe and did a liver biopsy in Birmingham. I am reading results are quick and take 1-3 weeks. I’m almost one month in and no results, when I call- they say they are awaiting results still.

I know the length of time waiting for results has no reflection on the good/bad news.

Hoping someone can tell me if I should chase more or this is normal?

It took 8 weeks for us to hear about my hubbies first biopsy results. Maybe leave it another couple of weeks and ask again.

Hi, my liver biopsy in London and it took 7.5 weeks to get back and I saw my specialist on Tuesday for the results. The expectation was 2 weeks so for the additional 5.5 weeks I went stir crazy with anxiety. It was explained to me that my liver sample was sent to different labs all over England, some tests took longer to do and some were repeated twice. And finally, I was also told by my Specialist that that’s the NHS for you. My results also went before a liver panel team to be discussed but my appointment was given to me for the first clinic after that meeting. The wait was really hard and I wish I had been told it could take up to 8 weeks when it was done and not two weeks like I was told. Good luck for when the results are back for yours

Yes, I think that there are big delays for results. I had a liver resection in August and waited nearly 9 weeks, for the histology results of the tumour to come back. I was a nervous wreck, but luckily it was benign.

thanks for the replies. I think I’m just getting anxious as I keep reading that they take longer if they are bad results as they need to be double checked and discussed.
