Hi, I had an high ALT of 135, I had lots of other blood tests done and most are normal and my ALT is now back to 30, I’ve had a test called genotype and its the only blood test I can’t see results for, I suffer with health anxiety and worried what this means, I don’t even know what blood test that is. What does all this mean now.

Hi. I don't know what genetic test they were doing but those do take longer to get results in the US. I had one done for Hemochromatosis genes which can affect the liver but that is just one. Did your doctor discuss any genetic testing? Maybe someone else will have an idea.

No she didn’t discuss anything, everything I have found out is via my nhs app. The test was Alpha 1 antitrypsin and next to that it said genotype.

My husband has alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency and had genotype testing. I think it's to see which type of alpha 1 antitrypsin it is - whether it's one 'broken gene' or two which would determine whether he needed treatment or not. Fortunately it was found that he had the less serious type so no treatment needed. If your Alpha 1 antitrypsin was normal then obviously they wouldn't have continued further genotype testing, so I don't think you have anything to worry about in that regard.

Ahh ok this makes sense, I had the alpha 1 antiitrypsin test and that said satisfactory no further action required.

Hi , I have alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency with the genotype SZ. So it sounds like that’s what they were testing for. The NHS Ap is wonderful but seeing tests and results without explanation from a doctor can increase anxiety. You might need to resist the temptation to look at results on there and phone the doctor instead. When I was diagnosed with A1ATD my husband and I had genetic testing because it is recognised that you need some support with a diagnosis of a genetic condition. Glad yours was all clear.

Thank you for your reply, yes you are right I must resist the urge to look as I have no idea what I am looking at, thank for your explanation.
