fibroscan

hi all,

just another update, had a screening Fibroscan with the liver trust via work it was 15.8, my CAP 188, this kicked off a barrage of bloods, all normal, and an USS, completely normal. Had a face to face with the liver consultant last week. He was also at a bit of a loss, given everything is so normal but the Fibroscan was so high. I have no symptoms of anything. I certainly do not drink every night, but I’m a bit of a binge drinker on a Sat night maybe, I had just come back from a weeks holiday where I know I drank quite a lot 🤦‍♀️ he recommends not drinking for 3 weeks before a scan as this can give a wrong reading? Anyone else heard this? Anyway he’s just going to repeat the Fibroscan and take it from there.

Your liver consultant has every reason to say so. Alcohol can cause inflammation of the liver, which in turn inflates the fibroscan score. If you don’t drink alcohol for a while, liver inflammation will decrease and Fibooscan data will decrease. Typically, before a fibroscan, it may be recommended to check the ALT level to know how inflammation can affect the fibroscan assessment.
