Hello
Until other forum members have had a chance to reply, here is a link to information about transplant assessment which you may find helpful:

We also facilitate a range of virtual support groups for people living with a liver condition (and their families and carers).
If you [are in the UK and] would find it helpful to speak to others with shared experience, you can register to join a group here

Best wishes

Which transplant centre will be seeing your husband? If you tell us that then you'll get an insight from members who have undergone the process at that unit as although all the tests are the same how each centre runs it's assessment process is different.
I've gone through the transplant assessement twice at Edinburgh with my hubby and wrote threads detailing the process daily. Edinburgh does it over 4 days as an inpatient with the multi-disciplinary meeting held on the Friday with patients getting their decision there and then (and if the decision is yes then you are on the list before you leave). Other places carry it out differently.
When it goes well transplant is a blooming miracle - my hubby is now 5 months post transplant and the change in him is superb.
Best wishes for it all,
Katie
Thank you so much for your response. I am so pleased he is doing so well. 3 day process at Addenbrookes. Kind regards
I had mine at the royal free
I tried to treat it like any other appointments I’ve ever had, with different faces you’ll be seeing though.
Easier said than done for some, but try not to worry. They’re the experts, and know what they’re doing.
Hi Lisa, my Mum had contact with the Addenbrookes team although she didn’t decide to go ahead, the team there were lovely. I’m sure others on here will have experience
Hi, I had my assessment at Addenbrookes as a 3 day inpatient, in no particular order there are lots of tests, blood tests, CT scan, x ray, heart scan, lung function test - which is just blowing into a machine, talking to various members of the transplant team, surgeon, aneathatist, dietician and will usually get a chance to meet somebody from ALTA, Addenbrookes liver transplant association. Take a notebook to note down any questions you have and things you are told, it can become very overwhelming. Take a book or something to keep you occupied as there is a lot of waiting around. They hold a multi discipline meeting, mdt on the Friday, I was told on the Friday afternoon that I defiantly needed a transplant and was fit enough to withstand the surgery, received the consent forms on the monday. All the team at Addenbrookes are brilliant, they really are the best, they care and take a lot of interest in you.
If you use Facebook please feel free to join our friendly and knowledgeable Facebook page called liver transplant support uk, thousands of people that have been in your situation.
There is also a Facebook group specifically for Addenbrookes patients called, Addenbrookes liver transplant association, ALTA, again everyone is very friendly and helpful.
Good luck
Hilary xx
