I am 66 year old female diagnosed in January this year with liver cirrhosis following a fibroscan.... after the initial shock and panic wore off I embarked on the Mediterranean diet with no processed food..I have lost 6 stone ( was overweight) and recent had a liver scan at my 6 month check up which showed no signs of fatty liver and a marked improvement. Great incentive to keep going.. I'm so pleased and feel so much healthier ☺️

Well done that's amazing news! I was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis in April this year my liver is now functioning and my scan is due in November so fingers crossed for my liver. Unfortunately I'm not as good as you because I have developed a massive sweet tooth and have medication for arthritis and chronic pain but you are inspiration to us all . Thank you

Good on you, I really mean that it’s not easy to lose weight and to change your diet and lose that is fantastic. Please make sure you are eating a balanced diet, then if you’re not already exercising regularly maybe try a lifestyle change of a little exercise. Fantastic news keep up the good work from the wife and I both watching our weight 💕👍.

Stay safe All

Hi, brilliant news, well done.

I am new and have had my chirossis diagnosis after Fibroscan a few weeks ago. After my initial shock and frustration (especially as I had complained of R sided abdominal pain for 5 years, only to be told by my GP that it was muscular and the Heptology dept would not see anyone who wad still drinking - and for that period, every year I was told my bloods were fine). The Consultant saw these historic results and was horrified that the GP whilst monitoring had kept the results from me!

Given the above I naturally felt I only had a short period to live. However, the consultant has advised me on how we can move forward. Any advice or inspiration that can be gained would greatly be of assistance.

Hi...I have metabolic liver disease that has led to cirrhosis..kpa of 14 so quite low.... after the diagnosis I to felt my life was over but decided that I would completely overhaul my diet ( I have always been vegetarian) and was advised by my liver nurse to follow the Mediterranean diet..I took it a step further and cut all processed food out as well eating fresh veg, samoln and tuna and fage Greek yogurt 0 % fat... my previous diet although pretty good contained lots of cheese . Crisps bread and chocolate....I feel so much better, and healthier and the weight loss is great.. my arthritis has improved and I have a new lease of life..I want to be around for a lot longer...xx

That's great news! As an aside, I have just learned of a diet study (in the US) focused on whether (or not) following a Mediterranean diet reduces the fatigue associated with Auto Immune Hepatitis (AIH). It is a small study funded by someone with AIH and the research team will also be looking at blood test and fibroscan results, with the aim of collecting evidence (to be shared with the medical community) that the Mediterranean diet does in fact produce improved outcomes for those with liver disease.
