All the best for a smooth recovery xx
Been trying to contact you to ask about how you qualify for a transplant. I have had HE but now on medication and 5 months since last episode. Have lympadema in my feet and calves on diuretics but also attending a clinic at our local hospice. My consultant says she thinks its my liver. Clinic doesn't agree. Kidneys reacted badly to Frusimide off it now back to normal now she wants me to go on them again. Have severe arthritis in both knees they wont do anything die to infection risks. Therefore on morphine to enable me to walk and exercise my GP really helpful. Consultant told me 3 months ago to up my steps amd she would put me forward for assessment. Just attended appointment and she jasnt done anything told me to come back in another 3 months. Meantime has given me a mortality prognosis of 2 years. I dont know what to do feel lost. Any advice? She has been distant and had to fight to get seen by her. 5 1/2 years alcohol free what's the point?
You need to push your consultant for referral to a liver transplant centre (if the hospital you attend already isn't one). I know that at Edinburgh they say they prefer to see you too early rather than too late - my hubby was referred in 2013 and it wasn't until the following year that he was first put forward for the transplant assessment (first time round) but in the interim he attended t/p clinic and Edinburgh more or less took over his liver care.
Next clinic ASK about transplant assessment. You have to be proactive and push for appropriate care.
It might be that you arn't yet needy enough for transplant - the whole thing with transplant is it's a life saving operation only so they can only put you onto the list if you are poorly enough and all other treatments have been tried or ruled out. You also have to be fit enough - waiting is gruelling and then the operation and subsequent recovery take it out of you. My hubby lost a stone between his operation and departure from hospital and has lost every bit of his fitness - he's puffing and panting even when getting dressed due to exertion and that was a guy who was cycling loads upto when he ended up on the list. You need to be as fit and healthy as possible so if you can do any exercise at all - maybe swimming would be easier than walking in light of your arthritis. You need to bank some reserves for if you do end up being transplanted.
This time round my hubby got so poorly that it was his consultant who said "I think we have reached the stage of getting you assessed for transplant!" & was subsequently proved absolutely right when hubby ended up being admitted to hospital seriously ill with HE.

congratulations, I’m glad you’re feeling so well. Hope it continues and you’re feeling better soon 👍
Congratulations on your transplant, don't try to rush your recovery, it generally takes a year to recover from transplant surgery, rest and recover slowly, the drugs have many side effects. I'm 7 years post.If you use Facebook please feel free to join our friendly and knowledgeable Facebook page called liver transplant support uk, thousands of people that have been in your situation.

Wishing you a speedy recovery and lots of best wishes x
Great to hear this news cat I wish you a successful recovery and all the best 🤗
This is very positive news. My husband is now 3.5 months post transplant. He spent 6 weeks in hospital - spikes in potassium and creatinine due to Tacrolimus and Pseudomonas and C diff infections. He is still not out of the woods - generally finds himself back in hospital every couple of weeks, however his weight and muscle mass have returned in such a short space of time - like some miracle. We are both looking forward to the next chapter in our lives and SO thankful he is alive. Take care.
That's great news sending you much ❤ for a steady recovery xx
Congratulations Cat, it is onwards and upwards now! All the best to you.
lots to feel encouraged about x keep well.
