Questions to ask at first Hepatology appointment

Hello all,I finally have my first Hepatology clinic appointment this week. I've been waiting since the end of last year when I was referred by my GP following 'excessive fibrotic changes' being seen by the surgeon during gallbladder surgery.

All LFTs were normal in January, and hepatitis and autoimmune blood tests were also negative, which is really good news.

That said, I'm suffering a lot of pressure/discomfort under my right ribs and I'm really worried. My mother died of PBC and I'm terrified my kids are going to have to see me go through what she did.

I'd be really grateful of any advice or suggestions for important questions I should be asking, or what I should be expecting from this appointment. I'm hoping for a fibroscan.

Hello, as pipm82 has said the liver trust has a good page on questions etc. All I can add is write the questions down and their answers and there isn't such a thing as a silly question either. Good luck.

Hi I always give the same advice, the couple of weeks before the appointment every time you think of a question go to the fridge and put it on the list, then when you go take the list with you and either give the list to the consultant or ask the question one by one. They honestly don’t mind answering the questions 👍.
