Need expert suggestions

I have been drinking alcohol for the past 20 years with an abstinence from Alcohol for 2 years in between. I always have had little higher bilrubin while normal ALT ALP etc . Last one year i have been drinking more than i ever did and the latest blood test that came last week shows 72 ALT and 43 umol/L.

i am a 39 year old Asian Male living with a family in the UK. I drink to enjoy sociall with no emotional stress whatsoever.

Do you think i am at a critical stage of liver disease. I have decided to quit alcohol forever, and have started cycling 15 miles a day + good diet in the past one week. I am scared as hell and will definitely continue with my lifestyle changes. But i need your expert views on my test results and let me know how much i am in danger and if my condition is reversible from here.

The GP has asked for lifestyle changes and revisit with the blood test after 3 months.

Thank you all.

Stay Blessed !!

Your inflammation markers are only very marginally elevated so don't immediately scream trouble. Your GP is doing the absolutely correct thing in suggesting lifestyle changes and re-testing in a few months.

It's wise to re-evaluate your lifestyle and treat your liver the best you can.

It doesn't sound like you have any serious degree of liver ill health but if your bloods are still elevated when retested you may need an imaging scan and potentially further tests BUT total abstinence, a good diet and exercise will hopefully turn around those blood numbers.

Thank you so much. I am on a serious mission now and will do everything i possibly can to bring those numbers down when i visit the GP again in 3 months.

I can’t comment on your liver test results, but you’re doing a good thing for your liver and all-round health by first acknowledging your health status be it good or bad, and doing something positive about it. Stopping drinking and getting in good exercise is going to do you the world of good, so good on you and good luck, take care.
