I wonder if anyone could offer some words of wisdom, I had an ultrasound yesterday and the sonographer said I had some fat in my liver, nothing to worry about. A week for results to GP. Phone call today from receptionist for urgent bloods, in a week and appt with GP, in 2 weeks. Asked to speak to GP and told no appts. I’m now freaking out it’s really serious.
this is what the ultrasound said:
A few hypoechoic parenchyma, the location, outline and echogenicity of these legions give the impression of focal fatty sparing.
Impression: Fatty hepatic infiltration with probable focal fatty sparing.
I’m not asking for a diagnosis but if anyone would be willing to offer any words of reassurance I would be very grateful as I don’t think I’m going to sleep for the next fortnight
Thank you

Non Alcohol Related Fatty Liver Disease is the fastest rising cause of liver illness in the western world now, having overtaken alcohol. The good thing with your scan is it reveals nothing more than a bit of fatty change - they arn't mentioning any scarring or fibrosity and this means it's hopefully been caught early at a stage where it is completely reversible.
Healthy diet, exercise, no booze are key but some other illnesses & potentially some medicaions can also contribute to NAFLD / Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). The British Liver Trust has a page all about the condition at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...
They also have a downloadable leaflet about lifestyle changes you might be able to make to 'treat' your condition. 17xpvwx1p0y4h.cdn.shift8web...
Thank you for your comment, I saw the word lesion and freaked plus the receptionist was saying it was urgent but no appointment for a fortnight.
I don’t drink alcohol but my diet hasn’t been good and no exercise since I hurt my ankle 3 years ago. I will read the links and hopefully will be able to sleep now.
A lesion just means a lump and bump, the majority of lumps and bumps are totally benign and as your report says "outline and echogenicity of these lesions give the impression of focal fatty sparing" I think you can be happy that this is what they've identified them as.
Thank you, unfortunatelupy I had this before 4 years ago then got NASH, reversed it and there was no fat in my liver as shown on CT scan. I hurt my ankle and couldn’t exercise and the weight piled on, It’s my own fault no one else to blame but I’m still worried. I don’t know if you can answer this question but would anything nasty have shown up? The only other thing it said was ‘no sonographer evidence of intrahepatic duct dilation or focal lesions, antegrade portal venous blood flow.
Honestly I wouldn't worry, I've got a few unknown legions and nodules growing inside, I'm awaiting another in depth scan, this should give me a better idea what they are, I had a scan done in 2016 and while the growths have increased the hospital I visited recently for a totally a different reason said they weren't to concerned, I believe they are cysts, obviously it's a natural thing to worry, but I feel fine, stay away from Dr Google this isn't a method to do a self diagnosis , let the professionals sort you out, and just put your head on the pillow and enjoy some quality sleep!
