HiMy CT scan says liver has smooth contour, 'severe hepatic steatosis', no focal liver lesion or biliary dilatation.
I phoned the helpline and was recommended to ask for fib 4 test but my gp says they don't do that. Just had normal full bloods and liver panel taken. Waiting for the results but I fear they won't give the necessary information to make a complete assessment of what's going on.
I see that the nice guidelines recommend the fib 4 test too but I don't know where to go to get it.
I had recent surgery (unrelated) and have had some bothersome symptoms since that prompted the scan (particularly pain just below my ribs on the right) so it was the consultant that ordered the test but I'm not due to see her for weeks.
I'm not sure what to do next except obviously work harder at healthier eating and exercise. I don't drink or smoke.
Thanks for reading this!

Hi, I think fib 4 test, can be calculatet on line on internet. You need a fue data, your age, ast, alt and platelet level. Talk with your GP. Try to eat healty and exercise. I wish you all the best.
Here is a link to our website outlining what you should do if you are not happy with your care. You will also find the Patient Charter with information about your rights and what to expect from your care.
Hi Jellybeanies, my US result is severe fatty liver however my LFT test is normal. I am pre diabetic with high cholesterol level though. My AST and Alt is in normal range. You can calculate fib 4 online. You will need ast, alt, your bmi and full blood count. Some site will require more information which can be used from your blood test results.
I did too and I quickly went on a healthy diet and dropped 60lbs and my bloods are all normal and I had the pain just right of my center breast bone and it turns out because of my diet and the beer drinking I did I developed gastritis and doctor put me on some meds for that and the pain started to slowly go away now if I eat spicy foods I feel a flare up but I drink nothing but water and coffee and over the last 10 years I’m drank a lot when I was home for 7-10 days but then I would have 3 weeks gone off shore no drinking so I wouldn’t say I drank daily so I too thought something was wrong with my liver but it turns out the belly of my stomach is where the gastritis was and my doctor told me that indeed it will cause pain where I was feeling it plus in my center of my back so don’t stress too much just try to eat a healthy diet and maybe request an upper endoscopy to see but best of luck to you and I did too have perfect liver numbers and a fatty liver on ultrasound but what led me to the hospital was the pain I had back in April of last year I ended up having my first bout of pancreatitis from diet and drinking but after a few months of stressing sober and eating healthy the pain went away and my numbers in my pancreas were back to normal but my liver numbers have always been normal and not diabetic and my cholesterol’s has all been at the perfect number sense I was in my 20 and my doctor doesn’t understand but he said some people just can stay having perfect cholesterol their whole lives even when I was over weight but just try and not get stressed and just eat a Mediterranean diet with less salt and hopefully your pain subsides.. plus I’m a towboat captain so I chew a lot while I drive and I thought that was contributing to my pain but the doctor told me no so don’t read too much up on the internet either just try and eat healthy and if you drink just drink less plus the liver is an amazing organ that will regenerate and start to burn the fat out of it if proper diet is followed so anyway good luck
Thanks everyone. I'm prediabetic with high cholesterol too but I also in eating disorder treatment so I can't know my weight or BMI which complicates things a bit. Doc calling on Monday. 🤞
It's potentially your eating disorder which has caused the fatty liver so careful management of your recovery is important. Your fatty liver won't probably be due to excess weight but potentially due to the effects of your body being starved. "Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is mostly associated with obesity but poor nutritional status can also lead to elevation of liver enzymes, fatty liver and rarely severe steatohepatitis. Most plausible mechanism involves oxidative stress causing lipid peroxidation and triglyceride deposition in hepatocytes followed by inflammation, cell death and fibrosis."
Hopefully your medical team will help with your recovery from both conditions.
