Hi everyone, My partners liver cirrhosis had disappeared - to look at him you wouldn't know anything was wrong, he's on medication and for a while everything was good.

Now he's developing a hard tummy again, I'm now worried that something is very wrong as he hasn't drank since he went to hospital back in October 22 and the doctors haven't seen him since.

Please tell me its all in my head

Has he been having 6 monthly scans and monitoring? * Scratch that ..... did he ever resume any medical care, just refreshed myself with your earlier posts and saw he self discharged so its not that Drs haven't seen him but the other way round.

Obviously his cirrhosis hasn't 'gone,' - symptoms have just been under control with the various meds or slcohol cessation calmed things down.

Was he not placed under the care of a hospitsl consultant after discharge from his initial hospitalization? * Guess not after reaquainting myself with earlier threads.

As minimum he should have been referred to gastroenterolgy and been having 6 monthly bloods, 6 monthly ultrasounds and some consultant contact.

He needs to see his GP if none of the above has been happening and chase it plus doctor needs to check his tummy because if this is ascites it needs dealing with a.s.a.p.

Does he watch his salt intake? Is he eating plenty of protein? All can help stop gluid retention.

Symptoms of cirrhosis can jump up suddenly and bite you in the bum as I know only too well.

Thank you for your replyThere has been no after care at all from the doctors or hospital

He's on a self imposed low salt diet

I'll see if I can get him to speak to a doctor but I won't hold my breath

Sadly if he self discharged and wasn't engaging then its not that he's not had after care but didn't stick around long enough for it to be put in place. Had he engaged and continued to receive the appropriate aftercare and monitoring he could have had issues identified and treated early.

Is he still on diuretics or has he stopped those? If he has ascites again he needs to be seen and treated because there is huge risk with ascites that the fluid can become infected and infection in someone with cirrhosis can be very serious.

He must seek medical attention as it sounds like acites. It’s important that he gets seen either by his GP or failing that goes to A&E. It’s a sign his liver isn’t working properly and he needs expert help in resolving this. It really isn’t something that should be left alone.
