Hi

My wife has AIH B of the liver and is taking 3mg of corticosteroids per day.

We have noticed a decline in memory over the past few years we have visited the doctors no sign of Alzheimer’s or Dementia they say.

Just wondering if this is common with the condition or medication.

Many thanks

Hi ShevBoy, what stage is her liver disease at? i.e. has she got fibrosis or cirrhosis? The reason I ask is there is a condition called Hepatic Encephalopathy (HE) which is when the liver is failing to deal with toxins and this leads to toxin build up in blood and ultimately the brain which can cause all manner of neurological issues including memory difficulties.

My hubby has cirrhosis due to Auto Immune Hepatitis and is currently battling HE. He is on Lactulose, Rifaximin and L'ornithine L'aspartate to try and deal with issues.

The BLT has a page all about HE and it might be worth looking into this with your wife's doctor/specialist especially if she has fibrosis/cirrhosis.
