Vitamin A

Hello everyone,This is such a bizarre question - I went to see a liver consultant back in October of last year and I got a call from the Liver registrar saying everything was okay but my inr was on the low wide so ive had 2 transfusions of vitamin K so that helped with that but she said my vitamin A was extremely low and wanted me to have 3 lots of injections then oral vitamin A, when I told my local gastro nurse she looked at me like I had 3 heads, my local gastro consultant did the same and even my GP 🤣 anyway as the outstanding team they are they got me a prescription signed by my consultant and gp, I then took the prescription to my local pharmacist for a community nurse to then administer and within a few hours they called me to say it was too expensive to get in 😐 has anyone ever gone through this head ache? And is anyone of any knowledge what vitamin A does to contribute to my liver function? Even I'm confused whilst typing this.

Danielle 😊 x

Vitamin A can be affected by liver disease as I'm guessing it's a fat soluble vitamin. I had some supplementation too before transplant, but only in tablet form. I didn't need any injections.

If what they are being asked to prescribe is "too expensive" then they should at least suggest an alternative.

Thank you for your response. Yeah, my gastro nurse is trying everything she can but can't understand why it's needed. I'll keep delving with asking and hopefully will get somewhere.

Have a lovely day. Danielle
