I have went from ddcompensatd to compensated liver disease since being diagnosed in August 2023. I keep seeing prognosis is 9 to 12 years. Is this correct or can you live past 12 years. I haven't had any alcohol since diagnosed

Compensated liver
Hi There
I have also gone from decompensated to compensated over a 6 year period.
A friend has gone through the above and he his still here 15 years later and still living his life so anything is possible.

Hi. I'm in the same situation as you. I'm not sure either. I'm 61 next month and was diagnosed in August 2021. Now teetotal. I saw my hepatic consultant in November 2021 (3 months after being told I was decompensated) and she said my liver was compensated. This is 3 months after being told decompensated. Mine was complicated as I had Covid and had been in intensive care in a coma after a femur fracture. In November 2021 my consultant said I'd probably live to see 80. It's all very confusing. I've read 12 years so, if this is the case, I have up to 10 years left. I did have a fibroscan in August this year which said I was F3/F4 between the two. My CAP was 316 which means I have a very fatty liver. KpA of 16. So my cihrossis caused by drinking is irreversible. I'm on a diet but have only lost 2lbs. Diet is very important. So I don't have an answer either. I just find it all very confusing. Sorry I haven't helped. Good luck with everything.. Best wishes Golly
Hi, thanks for your reply.
I also had complications as contracted septic shock and was on a ventilator for 10/11 days. I am not sure what my F score is as was lite up orange but I think it was 7.o or 79. The nurse just advise that it was cirrhosis. My fatty liver was good the nurse advise under they numbers for fatty liver. I think it was 209. Thanks for your help
hi Oasisman, cute name.😊
From what I have read, i believe that the 10-12 year number represents the “median.” Meaning that 50 % are larger and 50% are smaller than this (but including this, since it is a set of numbers 😀).
The median is typically the middle number (not the average) but for something this complex with a wide variety and factors, they prob figured a “median range” would be more suitable.
FYI- They are updating information as treatment methods and new data available is getting up to speed.
I read on the Cleveland clinic’s website (which was recently updated ) that if your liver is compensated and you are able to stop further damage, it potentially may not progress to decompensated.
I hope this helps. Welcome to the land of confusion. 😂 Always try and find the bright side. 😁
Thanks for your reply.I couldn't understand the date range median makes sense as I am sure other medical issues along with cirrhosis would effect the prognosis. I know my fatty liver is okay but not sure of fibrosis score. Maybe 7.9. Nurse said will probably be a year until.the next fibrosis scan so that is a positive and AST enzymes are back to normal and so far the other blood tests moving the right way with bilirubin at 30 from 36 from October to November.
I was in hospital for 6 weeks due to septic shock caught in the hospital on admission and I am sure I would have received the best treatment available for both the sepsis and cirrhosis.
Thanks for the reply and the nice mention of my username. Guess who was on YouTube when I was registering for the forum(first forum I have ever joined)
Diagnosed with enlarged liver in 1995, confirmed as cirrhosis a few years later. Developed cancer in 2020 and had transplant last year. Good luck.
Hi I was taken into hospital and put on drips and kept in when the doctor came back in the morning and said I didn’t expect to see you alive this morning. Because my liver had been so bad lots of hospital stays and medication, here I am a lucky person with a liver transplant that I got this March. This story started 20 years ago all I had to do was no alcohol 👍good luck.
Stay safe All

I’m a little ahead of you. Diagnosed at 56. With diet and exercise went from decompensated to compensated. Feel better than I did before diagnosed.
The way the estimation of life was explained to me was that you could be tested again in five years and you may have an estimation of 9-12 years to live.
Try not to worry as much about dying. Focus more on how your living. God Bless.
