I got invited for a fibro scan last week it was just a drop in thing in doctors car park . Anyway my kpa was 12.0 . All she said was we do another scan making sure I fast before. I’ve been so anxious and worried about it ! I’m a large lady and need to lose a lot of weight! I had liver function bloods last year and they were normal? I know I need to start losing weight and I’ve started. I also take Co codemol? I’ve not even been diagnosed with anything yet . Just a friendly reassurance

I think doing first fibroscan without ultrasound first or direct doctor's recommendation was not a good idea. Anyway reapeating fibroscan as you were told is a good idea. Also maybe FIB-4? (As I assemu your BMI is high) and maybe you have fatty liver (NALFD)? Maybe ask also about your CAP result (fibroscan can also tell something about fat)?

Anyway losing weight is the best you can do. Do not worry too much. Of course you should not ignore your fibroscan result but it cannot tell everything about your liver condition. Good luck.

Back in May this year I has a kpa of 75.. yes the highest possible... and told I had a 43percent I'd be alive in 12 months..Anyway.. roll forward to Oct..

I now have a kpa of under 50 and told in terms of liver I have 100 percent chance I will be here in 12 months, all bloods within normal range, living a normal healthy life.

P.s. I had liver failure n was in resus in Feb.

If I can advise anything.. this is a wake up call not a death sentence

Best of luck

That's not the worse kpa by any stretch. Only a magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) or a biopsy can give you an accurate assessment of the stiffness of your liver. Fibroscans are notoriuously unreliable and inaccurate and can vary a lot depending on the skill of the technician doing the test (many hit a rib which messes up the score). Go get an MRE.
