Hi My consultant said it was fine for me as I'm not alcohol dependant , so would not be a trigger for me to fall of wagon.

Cheers Jerry

Your asking a question that's typical of someone that's alcohol dependant.Your 2 glasses of wine a day is probably 5-6 bottles a week and that's equal to a couple of bottles of vodka.

If you feel you need a substitution for alcohol then you might need help quiting.

Don't ignore the warning signs.

Good luck ! In order for it to improve (to maybe normal?) you need to drink none for an extended period of time.

Hopefully that happens for you, and you can re-evaluate your situation at that point.

i goto the pub to meet friends and drink non alcoholic beer .makes a change from squash which isnt good for me cos im diabetic. However if you find yourself being tempted to drink alcohol (i dont and have exactly the same scores as you) then stop try coffee or something else non alcoholic.its great how much the scores come down(and your weight)

If it doesn't make you crave an alcoholic drink (and it doesn't for me), I think it is fine to have a NA beer. They lack incentive to knock back tons of them, so the tiny bit of residual alcohol should not be a problem. Still important to manage the carbs though, since glucose is all the same to the liver.

I have cirrhosis and still drink zero alcohol beer. Like one or two at dinner sometimes. Generally Heineken 0.0, Bud Zero or Stella Artois 0.0. I was diagnosed 8 months ago. My latest MELD is at 6 and all my bloodwork looks good, so the zero alcohol beer hasn't been any issue. Personal opinion - as long as it doesn't trigger you into going for the real thing I think its fine. I do avoid anything that lists even a trace of alcohol though. Really a ripe banana or some hamburger buns contain more alcohol than N/A stuff.
