Hi all, just asking if anyone was in the same ‘panic mode’ when told I was going to need an endoscopy
I haven’t seen it mentioned much before but when I told the nurse who did my pre-procedure check about how much I was dreading it, she suggested having it done through my nose!
After she explained it to me I said “yes please!” So had the procedure done, all went smoothly (still not pleasant but far-far tolerable!) and it didn’t have any of the gagging. Before this procedure I hadn’t heard or been offered an alternative option.
Just thought I would let everyone know that there is an alternative 👍

Thanks for that information, I have a strong gag reflex too, even the spray makes me do it, and I always have sedation. I've never heard of or been offered that before. I'll keep it in mind for my next endoscopy.
Glad you got through it. Because I didn't have anyone to take me home from the hospital I had to have the throat one without any form of anastethic/relaxant (or whatever they use). Not a pleasant experience at all.
They have real problems getting a cannula in without ultrasound machine ,I usually just tell them to carry on without and just have the spray but it is (for me) still horrendous.
I dont recall them saying I wasnt supposed to drive? But at the time I was only T2 diabetic and not on insulin yet (Hospitalised 06/23 with DKA,started on insulin)
Hi, I have had both an endoscopic ultrasound and ercp recently and I was scared by both. But they were fine make sure you have the sedation. With respect of the ercp I have no memory and the endoscopic ultrasound just a hazy memory.
The nursing team were really great and looked after me well. I just reminded them a few times I was a very nervous customer so they took the time to make sure I was okay.
