Cholesterol Levels?

Has anyone noticed a relationship between their cholesterol levels and severity/progression of their liver disease? I’ve read that as the liver gets worse, cholesterol levels drop (especially HDL cholesterol).

If you have had this happen, were you on medication (statins) to lower your cholesterol at the time?

Thanks for any info.

Are you saying cholesterol levels drop or get higher

Yes, I’ve read a bunch of studies found that HDL cholesterol levels are lower in people with advanced liver disease. Here’s one, there are others:

I wonder if the low HDL could be correlated with the digestive issues that go with liver disease.? Just a thought. ?

When your digestive system is messed up, the foods you feel comfortable eating tend to be less nutritious on the HDL spectrum.

I will read your link later. Hm. .. just a thought.

It may be diet related but for me I think it’s liver related. My other cholesterol levels are all good. It’s just the HDL is too low. My doc said it’s hereditary so there’s not much I can do about it. I looked back through my bloodwork over the years and it’s always been on the low side so maybe it is just my genes. I tend to blame everything on my liver these days 😞 and can’t stay off Google. I need to get a life!

My HDL was always low. But over last 5 years going zero carbohydrate, zero seed oils, it’s now fairly high & equal to triglycerides.

Interesting, I’ll have to check what mine is on next blood test since I’ve cut carbs way down. Thank you.
